It's hard to find good television shows these days. It sure isn't like it was when we were kids. Often times I will start a show that has many episodes or seasons that I hear people talking about. So, I decide to give it a try. I am always shocked at what other people watch and feel is completely normal. parents and church families, I always assume would be strict in what they allow their kids to watch and would avoid bad shows. The popular one right now is Yellowstone. I have watched bits and pieces of a couple episodes only to be appalled by the amount of F bombs in it, the killings, and the gruesomeness of it. I feel like I the only person that feels that way. Stranger Things is another one that was all the rave of kids. The kids in Jake's youth group when he was 15, were all watching it and talking about it. I read the reviews and was skeptical so I watched it with him and still felt uncomfortable with the weirdness and disturbing content in it I know families with little kids watched it. Friday night lights was a big deal 10 years ago. It was all the talk and very popular. Now that Luke is playing football and it is a football series, I thought it would be a good one to watch with Luke. The first episode was so nice, it talked about the family and the football team, the family even prayed together at the dinner table and I was getting excited for the family friendly show. I figured it would be tame because it was 10 years old so not so much of the gay content. Well, that was true, but the amount of high school age 16 year olds having multiple sex partners, cheating on each other in relationships, lies, football players drinking, partying, doing drugs and steroids' was horrible. After the first episode we didn't allow Luke to watch. I kept thinking maybe it was just one bad episode, but after 6 episodes, we both agreed we were done. It seemed the whole focus of every episode was high schoolers having sex with a little bit of football thrown in. This is one of those series that I hear church families talk about and recommend all the time. Am I missing something? Are we actually watching the same show? Apparently "The Office" has made its way back around and is a big hit with the teenage population. It is watched by young and old, pastors, and leaders and they all make jokes about the characters and lines. If you don't watch it, you are out of the loop. There is so many sexual puns and inappropriateness in that show. I guess if you talk about inappropriate things but do so in a funny way, somehow that makes it ok. I guess I am just an old fuddy duddy, but I still try to stick to values of making good judgment on what you put into your mind, and especially your kids. Am I just being an old prude here or has everyone given up? We are supposed to be asking, "what things do you fill your time with and is it something that is God honoring?"
