Olson's

2018  July 7th Jake had a youth group retreat for the incoming freshmen. The kids all went to Saylorville lake for something called "glamping". I t was described as glamorous camping with games and food. All they were told to bring is pillow and sheets. I was picturing a nice cabin. They slept in tents on the hard ground. Not only was the ground hard, it got cool in the night. I felt so bad as most kids knew to bring a mattress or something to sleep on. Needless to saw Jake slept a couple hours. He went to bed at 3 and was up at 5. If he even slept on that hard ground. I picked him up early in the morning from church and he no more than got in the door and Dad wanted him out helping rake the hay. I was planning on having Jake go in and take a long nap. That never happened. He drove his Farmall M for 5 to 6 hours sleep deprived.  This was the hay that got rained on, so we round baled it for cattle. Then in the evening, we had a party to attend.

Birthday Fun...Andrew celebrated his 7th birthday and we were invited. The party was held at Blake's parents home. We have met his parents a couple times, but this time met his brother and new sister in law and grandmother. Blake's parents are very nice. His Dad is really quiet and his mom loves to talk. They grilled and had a ton of food, salads, desserts and all. Blake and his brother got out their dune buggies and everyone got rides. Jacob was crazy about them. One buggy was running rich so it was shooting flames out the exhaust. He thought that was so cool. One had to be pull started, and one broke down on the road. There were also four wheelers and Bridgett and Andrew each had their own mini dirt bike. The kids were all having a blast. It was a little out of control with all the kids flying around on motorizeed toys and I was a little worried about everyone's safety. Nobody else seemed the least bit worried. Izzy is Ali's baby sister that her cousin has been fostering. Her mother has been in and out of jail and lost her parenting rights. Ali likes to spend time with her and brings her out for an occasional weekend. She had her Thursday through Sunday. This was the first we got to meet her. It was a bit awkward knowing the whole situation, but that little girl has a way of warming your heart. She is such a cutie. She is well spoken, happy go lucky and friendly. She isn't one bit shy. She is very independent and funny. Before long she made her way into my arms wanting to be held briefly, and followed Jayden around.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
