Week of May 2

Week 8 of isolation/quarantine, 82 degrees sunny and amazing. That is my kind of day, praise the Lord for such a great day. We enjoyed it by taking a bike ride in Woodward, crossing the High Trestle bridge, going into Madrid, and continuing back, a total of a 10 miles. It was pretty with trees on each side and little brooks running along. There were so many people out! We probably saw a couple hundred people walking and riding bikes. IT felt good to see people out of isolation. Out of that number, we saw 4 people walking together with face masks. I kind of wondered to myself,"Why?"  I am so over this whole COVID thing and I think it was an overreaction to such an extreme. I am done being a puppet on a string and a prisoner in my home. I think it is time to realize we need to get back to the old ways, let people get out and about. I want to make life as normal as possible for us and our kids.
Our ride was great and the trestle bridge was cool. Jake, Mark and I enjoyed the ride. Luke had gone with Grandparents to the Anderlik and Mitchell home. Luke hung around Matt and helped him on a barn project. My boys love to help Matt.

Thursday I planned and prepared for a graduation party for Allie. She graduated from ICCC in the medical assistant program. We are so happy for her and completing her liscense. It has taken her a long time to figure out what she wants to do and I pray she will enjoy her new job. She felt this was a plan from God. A medical advisor contacted her about the program and offered Ali the chance to enroll. Everything feel into place to make it happen for her.
I planned the party outside so we could still be cautious. We had both my parents and Mark's parents come. We feel the need to be more cautious around them. I spent most of my time getting things ready outside, only to have it be too cold and misty.  The kids ate in the garage on tables and the rest of us inside.

Our sunny warm days have turned cold on us again. This week was on the cold side, stayed below 60 and dropped into the 30's overnight.
On Saturday morning, I took Luke to purchase some new baby chicks. We made it through last winter with only two hens, and earlier this spring, we got down to one lone chicken. The remaining hen is solid black, one we refer to as Raven. She was one of the Buhr's chickens and the lone survivor. If the boys agreed to do chicken chores, I said we could do it again. Luke and I picked out 12 chicks, 6 Golden Comets, 2 Starlight Green Eggers, and 4 Olive Eggers. We placed them in a box and brought them home to a stall bedded with fresh sawdust and heat lamp. They are so cute and fun to watch. Luke helped me dip them and made sure they had feed and water.
That morning was up near 60, but in the afternoon it got windier and cooler. Mark and I were in the arena getting ready to ride horses when the wind picked up and we witnessed a strange dust. It reminded us a little of the dust bowl, strong winds blew tons of dust across the fields. It was eerie and really scared me, like a tornado. Inside the arena everything sounded louder. Mark said the weather has reminded him of 2012 when we had drought conditions. He thinks we are lined up for a drought.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
