Week of May 10

Week 9 of the pandemic. I am over it! This pandemic is outrageous and I am ready to be done with it. . I haven't worn a mask yet. I noticed Tuesday I was the only person in Fareway not wearing a mask. All the employees are now required. I look at them with their handkerchief tied or their thin piece of fabric, and wonder how on earth is that protecting anyone. When this whole thing came to be, it was said that the masks can do more harm than good. UGh! It is sad walk through a store and not get to see one smile. I made sure to smile at everyone, although I couldn't tell if anyone was smiling back. I also bought my $20 bag for the food pantry that I buy every time I grocery shop. I buy so many groceries for our family. We always have plenty, in fact we always have an abundance. My grocery bill is always near $200. A $20 bag for the food pantry is a small sacrifice that will help a family that greatly needs the food. It's nothing much, but I know it helps.
Hidden Acres started making lunch meals to go and take and bake freezer casseroles. I was so excited to buy mine! I bought several, gave some for mother's day gifts and to Ali, delivered some for my friends in Ames, and of course put some in my freezer. They don't charge much at all and the money is to help the camp ministry, it's a win win.
Throughout the week I spent much time outdoors pulling weeds, taking care of animals, rotating horses on new pasture, picking fresh asparagus, and riding horses. Two days  this week the gnats came out in full force. They are nasty and get in your ears, face, and they bite me. I react and swell up for days.

May 7, Jake went with Mark and got another dirt bike. Mark kindly helped Jake out and wanted to get him a good bike with a warranty. We all felt so bad for Jake in round one of his bike shopping. This time Mark took him and went through a dealer and bought a bike with a warranty. The bike is a cool looking Honda. Rylie and Jake went to pick it up and Jake was all smiles with excitement!

Saturday we went to visit our friends Dan and Angelia. They invited us to come and stay. There are people that won't even leave their homes for fear of COVID. If others knew we were going to another town and staying with friends, they would probably call the authorities. Our friends told us they have not changed anything, they are living life as normal as they can. We were of course excited to go somewhere and see friends. Dan and Angelia made us a delicious big meal with steak and so much good food. We got to see Angelia's new store in Downtown Cedar Rapids. It is amazing to think that she made the decision to start reaching her goal of interior decorating while she was recovering from her breast surgery. She had worked many years for her mother's company and now she broke away and started doing something for herself, a dream she has always hoped to pursue. In February she saw a cute store front and though of having her own shop. It didn't take long for her and Dan to purchase the store and make it the perfect space, something she named,"The Nest." They remodeled, put in new floors, and made space in the back for 4 renters to have a space inside her shop in what she calls the market. The renters are small business owners, one sells Olive oil, another a clothing line, one baby nursery bedding, and another cabinets. Angelia's focus is window treatments, bedding, home decor, flooring, and quality furniture. Her shop was looking fabulous! She recently opened her shop when so many others have closed up. We got the full tour and it was adorable. We stopped next door for some ice cream to top of the evening. In the morning she fixed us breakfast while Dan and Mark went on a bike ride. It was a little drizzly. Angelia and I talked about doing a bible study together. We will go over the book of Revelation together and video message or text as we go through it.
It was so nice to get out and do something fun. We are so thankful for good friends.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
