Since Monday was a holiday for many schools and a designated homeschool ski day, we took the day off. Luke had invited a friend from taekwondo class, Micheal. Because of the frigid temperatures and wind, we made a last minute decision to head indoor to the Ames ice skating rink. Luke made a lap and was hooked. He really enjoyed it and even moved to hockey skates. His friend, not so much, he was having a harder time and wasn't having much fun. After a couple hours of skating, Micheal and his mom went for lunch with us and had pizza. Micheal's mom takes taekwondo too and was in my class when I took it with Luke. She is also in my current self defense class.
Jan 23 Luke had his 11th birthday. He is really growing up fast. He is so grown up for his age, having conversations with adults and acting like a little man. His exciting birthday gift was something he had been asking for, a steering wheel and pedals to play his farming simulator game. He got the game FS19 for Christmas and wanted to have the accessories to make playing it more fun. He was super excited when he got it even though we couldn't get it working for a few weeks. Luke was still happy to spend the morning playing his game instead of school, they get a free day on your birthday. I had planned to go up to Williams and have a small party to have Alice be a part of. I wanted to go after lunch and have an afternoon cake and ice cream party. If Alice wasn't up to going to mom and dad's, I would take some cake to her house. I wanted that special memory for Luke and Alice. That morning our hired man Mike had gone in the ditch due to snow and ice covered roads. Mark did not want me to drive anywhere. Later in the day the roads weren't so bad and Mark had a chiropractor appt and decided since he was going to Ames we may as well celebrate Luke's birthday at Hickory Park. Karen and Orrie went too. We had our traditional hickory park meal with the free birthday dessert and serenade. We decided to reschedule the birthday party for Luke with Alice for Saturday. The party never would happen.
On Friday, Luke invited his friend CeJay to go out to eat and roller skating in Ogden. Luke wanted him to spend the night, but kids these days are so involved in sports they rarely get a weekend open. Luke was happy to get to skate with him. In fact our whole family went skating and we all strapped on wheels and skated. We had a great tie, I think Jayden had the most fun. Jayden was nudging Jake to go talk to a couple girls. He made the move and got shut down at first. After the girls skated around him and asked a few questions, one ended up holding hands with him during the couples skate. Mark, Jayden, and I were trying not to be obvious and watch, but we were just dying laughing, smiling, and carrying on about how our little Jake is growing up and he is becoming quite the ladies man. He was on cloud nine the rest of the night.
