Traveler

Following the fair was a week to catch our breaths. I did 8 loads of laundry on Monday! I cleaned out the trailer, put things away from the fair and started in on my to do list.  I only had a few places to run this week, Jake to driver's ed and Luke to a guitar lesson. Other than that I could just be home. we scheduled a couple horse riding lessons and one evening we roped with the Young's.

Traveler is the roan horse I used in serpentine. He is a nice horse to ride at a walk and a trot safely for beginners. When you gain speed, he can get fast and under pressure he can get hot with cattle and become hard to stop. He is a sweet horse, likes people and is affectionate. His ground manners are perfect, you can lead him and tie him, load him, bathe, vet, and shoe him and he stands perfect. He is the kind of horse that you can poke and prod without sedation like most horses would require. We have talked about selling him for some time. We have too many horses now and he doenst get ridden enough. He has kind of been my horse. Jake has been able to ride him well and has taken him trail riding. He gets a bad cough and needs to have his hay watered down, so I wanted to make sure he went to someone that knew that and would take proper care of him. We talked it over and Jayden wanted to list him for sale. She was excited about taking on the sale. She wanted experience in listing and selling a horse. I told her, he would probably sell in the first day. She went ahead and put a post on her personal facebook that only her friends would see. Right away we had two friends interested. One was my vet friend Jessica Y. The other was a roper, Tucker. It was almost a battle between the two. I wanted Jessica to have the first pick and Tucker was asking to come look right away. I knew that Jessica, being a vet would take the best care of Traveler and she was looking for her son. We were a little hesitant about having a young kid ride him. They insisted on coming to ride. We gave them the good, bad, and ugly details. We told them everything we could think of. We told them he gets hot around cattle, and can crow hop if he doesnt get warmed up good. We explained his diet, and anything we could think of. Jessica had her 11 year old son Colton ride him. He walked, trotted, and loped him. Watching him ride made me question whether we should even sell him. He looked so amazing, in good shape and he worked like a pro. Jayden even got on him and roped the hot heels. He worked so good for her. Jessica was impressed and we lined it up for her to take him home for a few days. It didnt take long and Colton and Jessica fell in love with Traveler. He was doing great and they wanted him. We offered to have them bring Traveler over and Mark would work with Colton and his dad teaching them roping skills. We wer so excited for their family and couldnt wait to see both horse and rider grow together. It just seemed like a win win. All was going well, until about 3 weeks later we got a phone call. They had taken Traveler a few places and he kept putting his head down and crow hopping. There were several things that could have been the cause. We had many conversations and  Colton and his dad came out 3 times to rope with us, but in the end Traveler came back to us and we gave them their check back. Traveler never gave us a problem and he went back to being a lesson horse. That nice check was going to be for Jayden. The check was for her spending all the time riding all our horses, training on Summer, and giving lessons. She even took a lump sum of that money and bought some horse panels for traveling to rodeos with. That money was for her to buy some of the things she will be needing for her horses. That was money spent and now given back.  On top of that, Tucker is no longer interested as well. Back to 9 horses. It was so disappointing all the way around.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
