Cowboy Christmas was the first week in July. It is a week of rodeos from town to town for 10 days straight. Although we were not going to them all, I did take Jayden to Leon and Bloomfield. We followed the Nelson's, Morgan and her dad Dave. It is always more fun to go with people you know. Jayden took both Joker and Ace, having Joker as a back up. We got to Leon with plenty of time to set up panels for horses, get the trailer situated, and even time to shop a little at the western store. Morgan, although she is much younger than Jayden, she is mature and a good friend. She is also like a little sister that looks up to Jayden. Then there is her little brother Mason. He is all smiles and adores Jayden. He is cute and cuddly. At Leon, Erica and Tori came and hung out with the girls too. Morgan had a smokin run ending up second over all for the 4 day rodeo. Jayden was up in slack and didnt have a run she could feel good about. It was almost a flashback of last year only this time Ace went to dart away from the third barrel making her turn on the opposite side. He also stopped. It wasnt good, enough to frustrate Jayden into wanting to retire her horse on the spot. She was sad and disappointed once again.
We celebrated the 4th in Williams. My parents were honored and chosen as the Grand Marshall's of the parade. With that, Jake led with a tractor and sign and Luke and Alivia followed behind in the decorated Ranger. They did a Chinese fire drill half way and switched drivers. It was a hot day and I was happy to watch in the shade. After the parade we went to the park for lunch, saw a few locals and let Luke stay and spend the night with grandparents and run around with Alivia. I had several people tell me Jayden and I look like sisters, we get that a lot. I guess we did kind of have similar tank tops and hair that day.
Back at home, the guys were working hard in the hay field trying to put up hay. They had a small crew running the small square baler. It was hot and a holiday, so as soon as we got home from the parade(1:30) I brought out some tea and lemonades. We watched the sky as rumors of rain were coming in. I no sooner delivered the drinks and you could see the sky darken, getting deeper blue. Pretty soon there were rumbles. Mark was on Jake's Farmall M trying to hurry the drying of the hay along by raking it once again. They had waited all morning for the hay to dry enough to bale. Jake was so proud to see his Farmall M being used. It was around 3:00 that the rain came. It came down hard in a pour. The guys scrambled to get the hay inside the arena before it got too wet. Everyone was wet and so was the hay. We only had one and a half flat racks of hay and a dozen round bales. The rest, some 60 acres lay on the ground getting rained on. Ugh. The rain wasnt in the forecast a few days ago when they cut the hay.
We try to get an annual photo around the 4th of July in our corn field. Knee high by the 4th of July used to be the saying.
