Along The Mississippi River

Bed & Breakfast... Mark and I took off for a weekend getaway just the two of us. We wanted to get away right after spring planting and this was the first weekend we had an open schedule. We booked a one night stay in Burlington at a Bed and Breakfast. We decided to stay near Mark's relative Jim Alexander and his friend Sheryl. Mark had always wanted to see his home and the farmland and homestead area. We arrived at our B&B and met the owners right away. The lady was very talkative and wanted to tell us the whole history of the house, herself, her family, and the town. It was hard to peel away. The house was renovated in the 90's to add an extra floor they called the squirrel's nest. It is the room we stayed in with a gorgeous view of the river, complete with a hot tub. It was super cute and cozy. Not long after we checked in we met Mark's cousin Jim and Sheryl and they took us farther south for dinner with other family. We went to an old vintage Inn that was uniquely decorated. It was a buffet with tons of food. Afterward's Jim took us on further along the river around lots of windy curves. The drive started to bother me. The next morning the owners eagerly awaited our wakening and joined us for breakfast. They had a cup of coffee and talked the entire time. you could tell they really enjoyed company! The enjoyed some deep conversations with Mark about agriculture, environment, and oil. They seemed to be intrigued by us and enjoyed our company. We told her that our fiath in God is what gets us through. She told us she puts her faith in good. I hope that she sees the difference in those that have God in their lives, I hope we shined our light to her in some way. Breakfast was absolutely out of this world. I wished I had a bigger stomach or could have saved some and came back for more. My favotire was the pie she referred to as a scone. It was amazing, the crust reminded me of a soft sugar cookie with fresh berries picked from the owners berry patch that morning. Even the whipped cream was homeade! It was to die for. Next was the quiche made in a pie crust of has browns. I thought that was very creative and o so yummy. We had bacon, nutty muffins, and tons of fruit. Even fruit cut in the shape of a squirrel. It was all so good. I am beginning to see why people chose a bed and breakfast. I can't wait to visit more.

Day two of our trip, we met up with Jim and Sheryl. I was saved from lots of extra driving and sight seeing by Sheryl's suggestion for us ladies to go shopping. The guys did their thing and drove around the country. Us ladies shopped downtown and I found the cutest little boutique. It was like my little shop, and  I found so many things I liked and the prices were very reasonable. I hit some sales too! I came away with lots of goodies for Jayden and I and a few gifts for later. Sheryl took me to a cute little cafe on main street as well. We had a fun day. That evening Mark and I ventured on to Muscatine where we spent the night. The next morning we met Kellie and Duane for breakfast in Iowa City. They met us downtown at a popular restaurant. We had fun visiting with them and catching up before heading back home. It was a nice getaway.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
