Headed West To Cheyenne

After the Eldon Starr ranch visit, Mark wanted to take the scenic route to Cheyenne. I knew that Cheyenne was only 3 hours away, so driving on highways and not taking the interstate didn't bother me. However when 3 hours passed and we were nowhere near Cheyenne I was a little irritated. Not only were we a little ways, we were a long ways from the route. We did make one stop to see a historic site in Nebraska called Chimney Rock. We also made sure we stayed on the sidewalk. He had gone up north and all over the place. The worst part was, the view only changed slightly. Sand hills, sand hills, sand hills. There wasnt much to see! I was very annoyed when it took us 7 hours!! I was so happy when we finally checked into our hotel and had steak for dinner. Originally Mark didn't want to make the drive to North Platte in one day, he thought that would be too much driving. And here we were day two, driving another 7 hours for no apparent reason other than scenery!
After a stay in a hotel, the next morning, Jayden had plans to meet up with Kara and her grandmother for a "Women of The West" style show. They bought a ticket for Jayden so she could enjoy the brunch and style show. She said it was very gaudy expensive clothing and older women. She still had fun and our family met up with them at the Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo. It was a little chilly, especially for July and it threatened to rain all day and sprinkled a little. The rodeo was entertaining and we really enjoyed it. There weren't as many recognized big names as the last time we attended. The most excitement came from the wild horse race when the horses ran around the track and jumped through a fence and ended up in a back pen. We had a good time, everyone got souvenirs, and Jayden and Kara spotted a famous bull rider, Jess Lockwood they happened to be following out. It was neat to get the girls together even though it was for such a short time. Kara and Jayden would be such great friends if they lived closer. It is too bad Jayden doesn't have somebody like her nearby. After the rodeo we drove on to Fort Collins for supper. It brings back so many memories from living there. I still know my way around, but it is changing and growing too. We headed up into Estes arriving as it was getting dark.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
