Horse Show Day... It was a special fair with it bring Jayden's last and Luke's first. The two of them took horses to the fair. Luke took the trusty Eagle, the horse that has taught so many beginners. Luke had only recently started loping and wasn't feeling to confident yet. His plan was to take Eagle and do just a few classes. He entered walk & trot class and costume class. He had a pretty easy day with more games the next day. His walk trot class was a novice class, so just like Jake's first year, he was the only one and won his first trophy. He was super excited and had a good experience. That is all you can ask for in the first year of fair. His costume was kind of a quick and easy plan with the help if grandma Mawgee, he was a doctor and Eagle the patient.
Jayden brought her 5 year old horse Joker. He is her guy that she has done the training on. She entered a little bit of everything, but not all the classes. She just wanted to have a fun fair and wasnt going for points, just exposure and practice for Joker. She did Western pleasure, halter, walk & trot, horsemanship, and costume. Her big bay took second place in a halter class against some pretty tough geldings, a class of 15. Jayden won a lot of her classes. She was an indian girl for costume. Jake spent most of the fair walking around with his buddies he got to know through the 4H trips he has been on. He was happy not to have a horse to worry about.
Horse Game Day... We enjoy the game day, it is more fun, less stress, and our kind of riding. Both grandparents, and Blake and Ali came to the fair to watch the kids. It was hot like it is every year, real hot. Jayden and Joker were in most classes and he did great for her. The most fun was watching him jump and he could clear it with some height. She won most of her classes and only had 2 in her division. In the end, she had 11 trophies!! I would say fair was a success! I love to see her hard work pay of. I know the hours, sweat and work that went into this horse. Luke did barrels, poles, and a race where he had to get off his horse, do jumping jacks, mount, and ride home. He had been loping back on all his races and each time Eagle was a launching a little harder and going a little faster. The last time he put a little hop into it. Luke as ok with it, but was ready to be done. I am so glad that he got to take Eagle and experience the county fair with a horse, something I really pushed. i am not sure if he will have an interest in taking a horse again, but at least he had one year of it.
Sunday, the last and final day of the fair, was horse show in the morning, Share the Fun in the afternoon, 4H champion and State Fair winners dinner, then Parade of Champions, and finally release of animals. After the horse show, we grabbed a light lunch and got Luke ready for his Share the Fun performance. As we sat there watching the kids perform, the crowd got larger and larger. Luke was not a bit nervous when it was his turn. He got up on stage and sat with his guitar and played the Star Spangled Banner on his guitar. He did a great job. A few notes into the song the crowd stood up and he got a lot of claps at the end. He told me it was fun and he liked playing. I am so glad he wasn't nervous. I hope he will have the opportunity to play at events.
After cleaning up and wearing their dressy clothes, Jayden and Jacob went to the Champion dinner held out at the Starlight. At 6:30 they had the Parade of Champions, each kid walked across the stage as they announced their accomplishments. Jacob was acknowledged for his grain bin display going to the state fair. Jayden was acknowledged for her horse classes. The horse project leaders presented the overall high point awards. They gave buckles to the high point winners and Jayden took the Senior division. What an accomplishment and what a great way to end her senior year and last 4H!! She wasn't even sure she was going to do 4H this year and we are so glad she did. The buckle is gorgeous and she has worked so hard with her Joker horse that it was well earned. The Dencklau family gave a memorial scholarship in honor of their son. It was the new project leader Susies' brother. She has become a good friend to Jayden also. The scholarship was presented to Jayden for $500. That was such a surprise and honor. We were all blown away! Her senior year and she went out with a bang!
