In July we took a weekend and went to Sioux City. We made our first stop in Lawton to visit my good freind Jess. We have known each other since pre-school and have stayed friends through the years. She invited us to come for dinner. She grilled and fixed us a nice little meal. It was fun to see her and her family. We checked into our hotel in downtown Sioux City, The Warrior. The Warrio- Constructed during the “the new era”, The Warrior Hotel has been a fixture in the skyline of Sioux City, Iowa for well over ninety years. After a complete renovation, this architectural landmark reimagines its luxurious Art Deco history with a rich palette, elegant furnishings, and refined details. A grand staircase and ornate architectural elements have been restored to their original glory and complement the consciously modern design. A glamorous and distinct Midwestern destination, The Warrior embraces its celebrated past to create an inspired 21st century experience that is “Simply Sioux City™”. The hotel had recently been updated and was very nice. Our rooms had a heated bidet, quite interesting. There was a bowling alley in the basement that we took advantage of. There was also an outdoor rooftop bar where we could see for miles.
While in Sioux City we visited the Museum and went to a nice restaurant on the river. We went to explore the area, the Loess Hills, hiking trails, The Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center, and quite a bit of just driving and sight seeing. Sioux City is on the edge of Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota. There is a lot of history in this town. We also drove over to Le Mars for some ice cream. The town was preparing for the mass influx of RAGBRAI riders late in the day. We checked out the large museum in town full of interesting historical items. One morning we found a mom and pop restuarant just a block from the South Dakota border. Our food size portions were gigantic!
