Summer Olympics

July 23- Aug 8 During the Summer Olympics I tuned in on the television and left it on morning to night while I was home. I would glance as I passed through and if it caught my eye I would watch a bit. The exciting events were more exciting with all the track and field, swimming, and gymnastics. The whole family would get in on watching certain events. Of course I always like the gymnastics. This year they had a shocker when Simone Biles drew out of the Olympics for mental health reasons and Suni Lee, a gal who had not been in the spotlight took the gold. The Jamaican runners were awesome to watch too. So many on the women's team kicked butt. They took 4x100. They gave glory to God in their win. Swimmer, Caeleb Dressel was also super amazing to watch surprising himself with win after win taking gold after gold. He was nice to look at too and had a great personality  and strong faith. I think I became an instant fan! I watched events I had never heard of like wall climbing. I enjoyed

Colorful Language

I found this statistic to be interesting regarding swear words in cinema. I have noticed that people use foul language so much more these days. You hear it on the movies, from adults, and now from the mouth's of babe's. We wonder why, where they pick it up, how they are learning it. Hearing terrible language disgusts me, angers me and hurts my heart. It makes me cringe. I want my reaction to always be that way. I never want to become immune to to hearing it, never want to tolerate it, and never want to speak it. There are some who use swear words in every day life in day to day conversation. I find it so sad. We used to hear bad words in the R rated movies, but it has moved it's way even into kids shows. Netflix has a string of television series and its so hard to find any good shows that aren't flooded with swearing. I have seen so many movies and shows that I think, wow if only they cleaned up the words, it could actually be a great show. It ruins the show. I refuse

Hotel Bible

Hotels have had a bible in the top drawer for years. It is there for the guest if they so choose. I think it is wonderful. There are travelers that may stumble upon a bible and read scripture that may have a positive impact. It may be the see that start their journey to know Jesus. I remember a few years ago the hotel at the ISU memorial Union removed all of the bibles because one person complained that they were offended by it. I find that truly heartbreaking. Why we bow to one person because we might offend them. That one person has a choice to read it or to leave it. I will never understand why they were removed. I recently stayed in a modern hotel to find this in the drawer replacing the bible. The book itself that you can hold in your hand and turn pages has been replaced by a bookmark with a QR code. Not only that, but now you have choices, lots of choices (8 exactly)  as to what religion you want to read. Have we lost our minds!?

Sioux City

In July we took a weekend and went to Sioux City. We made our first stop in Lawton to visit my good freind Jess. We have known each other since pre-school and have stayed friends through the years. She invited us to come for dinner. She grilled and fixed us a nice little meal. It was fun to see her and her family. We checked into our hotel in downtown Sioux City, The Warrior. The Warrio- Constructed during the “the new era”, The Warrior Hotel has been a fixture in the skyline of Sioux City, Iowa for well over ninety years. After a complete renovation, this architectural landmark reimagines its luxurious Art Deco history with a rich palette, elegant furnishings, and refined details. A grand staircase and ornate architectural elements have been restored to their original glory and complement the consciously modern design. A glamorous and distinct Midwestern destination, The Warrior embraces its celebrated past to create an inspired 21st century experience that is “Simply Sioux City™”. T

July

We have some pretty cool pets, our dogs Buster and Tuff and Kitties Mimi and Felix. There is a new puppy that will soon be joining the clan.   Jake likes driving the 89 Ford. He takes pride in the fact that he got it running. It is loud, clunky, rough, and rattles, but it sure is handy on the farm. It is a solid ranch truck if you dont have to go far and it is made to haul a heavy load.   It is fun to see the harvest to table that you made happen.  Luke and Jake are handy famr kids that are the jack of all trades. They are always fixing something and grandma always has a to do list for them. Some days they are head to toe filthy. You know it was a hard working day. Luke got to go with the Middle School Youth group to spend a day at Adventureland. They even took greyhound buses to get there. IT was terribly hot, but they could enjoy the waterpark too and he had fun. A hard day of play means a nap is ok.  This cat's hair randomly started turning white. He is a 100% solid black cat,

Summer Roping

We've been roping 2 to 3 times a week. Mark does the roping while I haze. My job is to keep the steer off the fence and running straight. We have been gradually having Jake haze more and getting him used to it. He's been doing great. Roan is way too slow for the job, so Ace is usually the preferred horse. The last time I rode Ace, he kicked his back feet in the air and on one run he did a little buck. Neither really phased me and neither seemed to fierce. Today I hazed 5 steers off Ace, then let Jake haze a few. Ace came out of the box one stride and on the second stride kicked his back feet in the air and went to bucking. He bucked about 4 more hops and Jake was getting more and more off centered and was coming farther out of the saddle until finally he hit the ground. Mark, Luke, and I were all there to see it happen. I felt so bad and was afraid he would be hurt. He hit the ground on his side and got up ok. He was tough about it and was more surprised than anything. We had

Deer mount

Luke was excited to get his deer mount back from the taxidermist. He did a great job on this large deer. We mounted him on the wall in the basment and he looks pretty cool! Luke is very proud of his big buck.

County Fair

Tuesday was day one of county fair week and started with judging day. My mom always likes to tag along and listen to the judges critique they boy's projects. Every year I try to convince her to become a judge or a helper. I figured I might as well help, so today I was a photography judge's helper. It was interesting and I enjoyed hearing the judges comments. Jake and Luke went through my judges line and I acted like I didn't know them. It was pretty funny. The boys and I were smirking at each other trying not to give it away. The boys did well with their projects and a few things got held back and considered for State. Jake left work to be judged and headed straight back after. Jake did a project telling about all the steps involved in switching from a bean crop to a corn. He had a display and write up and it got chosen for state fair. He also had a photo taken in Yellowstone of a hot spring that was considered for state and his photo of Grandpa W fishing got a blue.
