There is a new potential rodeo coach for ISU who has come into the picture. He is a motivated former Nebraska team coach that knows rodeo. He has competed and coached in Nebraska. He recently moved to Iowa and wanted to apply for the coaching position at ISU. Of course the two dictator women coaches wanted nothing to do with him, turned down his application, and tried turning him away. Fortunately the team members caught wind of him, contacted him and encouraged him to continue to pursue the position . The current women have caused lots of chaos and division in the club and tea, havent helped in any way. In the past couple months, the team has had meetings with the potential coach, Cliff and formed their own team meetings with officers and plans. Cliff wants to help the kids raise sponsorship money, get scholarships made available, schedule practices, and he is willing to give of his time and money to help. Everyone is super excited except for the current women coaches. It will be interesting to see where this whole thing goes. In the meantime, Jayden attended two team meetings Cliff lined up in Elkhart. He does more than just talk, he puts his plan into action. I was so impressed. He comes to the practices and helps with the roping dummy and watches runs. Jayden is learning to like breakaway roping and said it comes very easy to her having team roped so much and she likes it.
Jayden competed in her first college rodeo for the spring semester on Friday April 5 at noon during slack. Mark and I made the 4.5 hour trek to Brookings south Dakota to see her. The fields are still too wet for any field work and we made an overnight trip out of it to see her. Jayden was up 8th in slack on Astro. It was an awesome indoor arena with lots of seating and good ground. Astro was quietly waiting and walked in so nice. He ran and had a picture perfect first barrel, at second he dropped his shoulder and tipped the barrel, then bulldozed the third and knocked the barrel end over end coming up and hitting Jayden in the shin. She wears shin gaurds for that reason, but this hit low and it hurt. She was disappointed and feeling pretty bad. She gets down and embarrassed of her run. I know she wants it so bad, she wants us to see her do well, she wants her teammates to see her do well, and most of all she wants to be successful on her horse. She works so hard at it and wants to do her best. It is so stressful and so much on her shoulders to do well. One of her teammates she traveled with was a newbie. And I mean brand new. She has done games and shows and decided to compete in her very first rodeo ever! She was up first and care free. She asked Jayden many questions that showed how new she was. Do we lead our horses in or ride them in? Do they have real metal barrels or the pop up kind? She didnt have a care in the world. Her run was all out of sorts and when she was finished she just laughed about it. They really should have requirements for college rodeo and try outs. Iowa State is kind of a disaster as a whole in the rodeo arena. They are probably the only team that has never had a team member make short-go. To Jayden is it all business and she takes it so serious. She wants to make short go so badly. Later she pointed out to me that next year I wont even get to see her at any college rodeos. I know she likes when we come watch her and are there with her. After slack Mark and I went for lunch and checked into our hotel, and. We later went to the evening rodeo performance to watch. College rodeo is a neat experience that I am glad Jayden is getting to be a part of. It is a camaraderie of people with similar passions, love for their horses and the sport. You meet so many new people and cheer each other on. I hope Jayden can have a good college experience in and out of the arena.
