70 and Sunshine.... April 15- When it has been 6 long and deadful wintery weathery months since we have seen 75 degrees, you saok it in. Ok so maybe Mark and I cheated a little when we stayed in Florida. But, in Iowa after a long winter you throw open the windows and let the breeze fill the house. We listen to the birds chirp and open all the curtains so the sunshine fills every room. We spend all afternoon outdoors until the sun starts to go down. Two days in a row we got to experience sunchine and warmth. Sunday after church I rode a horse, bathed a horse, and lunged a horse. I did some outdoor spring cleaning in the shop and garage. Since the whole family was home and the weather nice, I chose to take the time and bury our sweet Daisy's ashes. I walked around thinking of a good spot and chose under the tree by the snadbox where the kid used to play. Daisy spent lots of time by that tree watching all three kids play. She was often beside my lawn chair with her head on my lap wanting petted or with her head under my chair in the shade. The younger more playful Daisy would try to join the kids in the sandbox. It was the perfect spot and we each helped dig the hole and share a memory. Later I painted a nice rock to place under the tree where she is buried. I miss seeing Daisy greet us whenever we came home pulling in the drive with her wagging tail. Many nights pulling in late from rodeos, she would run the perimeter of the area as we pulled in as if she were checking it out for critters or threats. She was the best. She was the welcome home greeter.
In the evening I took the boys to a 4H meeting and sat on a park bench and read in a book. It was peaceful in the sunshine and nice to see people out walking, playing and riding bikes. Everyone is finally coming out after a long winter of what felt like hibernation.
Monday we finished school by noon and were outside the rest of the day. Jayden was still home and we enjoyed a few minutes basking in the sunshine in our lawn chairs. Then the boys and us girls went on a four wheeler ride, or maybe I should call it more of a race. I kept telling everyone to slow down. Jayden drove with me on back and found it hilarious every time I would scream and holler. I am not sure which kid is craziest and the most dare devilish. We had fun zipping around the hay fields. I also fed horses, gathered eggs, filled holes around the shop, and played kickball fetch with Tuff. That has been a daily game as he meets me daily with one of his toy balls. He loves when you kick it and he chases it and brings it back. I don't think he would ever tire from it. Luke washed the tahoe and Karen and OD's suburban at the shop. Jacob hauled manure and Mark loaded him.
Yes, spring is finally here!! It has taken so long. The bad news... the temps will tart to drop again and by the weekend there is talk of snow and 30 degrees. As I always say, "Only in Iowa". In Iowa you can wear a tank top and shorts and bask in the sun and a few days later need hats and mittens and shovel snow. Ugh!
