Sunday July 28, Larry Ferrari passed away. He had been in the hospital with lots of complications. Orrie had been at the hospital many times to see him. That very morning Orrie left the hospital to drive to the church to tell the pastor and so others could pray for him. In those few minutes, Larry passed away. Mid-week we attended Larry's funeral and burial. Larry is Troy's Dad and Grandfather to Torrie, Jossie, Jaynie, and Rylie. Larry farmed and ran cattle just on the north side of Pilot Mound.
Friday Jake had one of his friends from his Ames youth group come and spend the day. It started out with a fun plan to have two boys from youth group spend the day, go to Spring lake in the evening for supper, roller skating, and ice cream. I offered to pick the boys up and take them home because I knew Ames would be far for them. We had been planning this for a long time. Both boys parents said it would work and we were excited for the day. I love going to Spring Lake and I thought it would be fun for a few boys. The weather has also been fabulous! We have been enjoying the 70 to 80 degree days. At 10:30 in the morning I got a text from one mom saying her son is not getting along with his siblings and is now grounded and cannot come. My heart sank for Jake. He isn't like town kids that have friends over every week. For Jake to have a friend come over is once or twice a year. He had been asking all summer and we have been waiting and planning for the perfect weekend. We even gave the parents a couple options for dates. I wanted to do everything I could to make it happen for Jake. When his friends mom cancelled on us, I don't think she realized that Jake is really the one being punished. I understand that parents need to punish their kids, but when you make plans and then cancel, two people are punished. There are other ways that parent could have handled the situation and this is not the first time this has happened. I was bummed along with Jake. He hesitantly decided to still have the other boy over. The two of them didn't really know each other as well and it is more uncomfortable without the third boy along. We decided just to have him come to the house for a few hours and skip the plans for the lake and skating. The boys had a really good time, but it just wasn't the same. Friends seem to let my kids down over and over. Friendships can be cruel.
Saturday Ali and Blake came out with the kids. I gave them horse rides and Luke gave gator rides. We had sweet corn and grilled. Andrew and Bridget are sweet kids and super cute with bright eyes and big smiles. I really like Blake and I think he is wonderful for Ali, I just hope he puts a ring on her finger soon. She posts all over facebook about when she gets married and calls the kids hers. They are living like a married couple and family. I pray that they stay together and tie the knot soon.
Over the weekedn, Luke was invited to his freind CeeJay's birthday. He got to go with his family out to eat, to a Cub's game and spend the night. It was to be a surprise and Luke was super excited. He had never been to a big baseball game like that and had a great time. Chris let the kids all pick out a souviner. Luke came home with a new cap and mini baseball bat. He stayed the night and had a blast. So thankful for his new freind and good times.
