This Week in Aug

8/20/17
Tuesday Luke wasn't feeling the best and had a headache. I didn't think much of it and took him and Jake to their dentist appointments. As the day went on Luke kept feeling cold and his head continued to hurt. By evening he had a temp of 102. It was a 24 hour bug and by Wednesday he seemed to be fine. Wednesday Jayden had her friend Brianna come and stay a couple days. They  spent most of their time on a horse.  Thursday, the kids went with Mark to the Iowa State Fair. I was glad to stay home and have a quiet day to myself. When you homeschool and are with your family all day every day, sometimes a day home alone is wonderful. I did some major cleaning inside and out. It was a great day outside and I gave a riding lesson. Friday was another day home. Jayden took her friend home, Jake mowed for Karen, Luke was bored and buggy. In the evening I took the kids to Spring Lake. The weather has been outstanding and I have been wanting to go back to Spring Lake on a Friday for their grill out, roller skating, bike riding, and ice cream. It hasn't worked out to do that with another family and time was running out. I had been craving my amaretto cherry and chocolate ice cream too. Mark had no interest, so the kids and I went after supper for a walk around the lake and ice cream. It was a perfect night and I enjoyed it.
Saturday the kids went to the Muench Family reunion with Grandparents. They spent a lot of their time in the pool at Hidden Acres. Jayden went to cousin Jaynie's birthday bonfire in the evening. It was Jaynie, Maggie and their boyfriends, Jayden and one other girl. What is with the boyfriends anymore? Mark and I went out to dinner with my parents and their friends  to a new restaurant in Luther  called "Whatcha Smokin". It has delicious smoked meat and a unique environment with window garage doors that were open all the way around. My parents have been friends with the Elm's and Williams' for years and they still get together to go out to eat regularly. I have known them so long, they are like family to me. We enjoy their company and conversations too.  It was another beautiful evening.

The last week in August was another week of fabulous weather. The temps have been mild, warm to 80 in the day and cool in the evenings. Monday was a solar eclipse. People went crazy over the total solar eclipse driving miles and hours to get the perfect view. Iowa was not in the direct path to see the totality of the eclipse. It was pretty overcast here and we really didnt see much. The sky had an unusual glow to it and got darker, like when it is cloudy. In the direct path, the sky went pitch dark for a couple minutes.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
