I have never seen Mark spend more time on his phone than the past month. He checks it every few minutes. He checks the markets, checks his emails, checks his texts, checks Ag forums and websites. It stresses me out just watching him. He also listens to every update on the radio and analyst talk. He reads forums and watches the markets on tv. It is overwhelming and controlling him. Mark was certain that we were going to be in a drought last summer and made some major marketing choices that did not go in his favor. This year he watched the markets and watched the weather. He has been riding the roller coaster markets this spring and summer. He was sure the summer would be under a drought which most of the Midwest is. Traveling down south we saw it for miles. Fired corn, shriveled, small corn. Beans that looked small and thin. Sadly the markets just arent following. USDA comes out with reports that don't seem to factor this in. It hurts the farmers so much the way the USDA controls the prices.
The week was kind of stressful, between soaking in the fact that Jayden's horse is lame and we don't know why or what to do about it. Also the dog having eye surgery and the expenses with all the vet bills. Then the situation with the other family that quit speaking to us. Then to top it off, corn prices feel another 15 cents. USDA came out with a report and Mark was so stressed he thought he was going to pass out. Yes, stress has been a big factor in our week.
Monday we took Ace to yet another vet. He is lame and they blocked him all the way up his leg and could not identify the source of the pain. We went in with hope and came out discouraged again with nothing more than a big bill. Jayden's friend Brianna met us with her horse and came to stay a couple nights along with Morgan. The girls had such a good time together. They are like sisters, maybe even triplets with their blonde hair. There are lots of smiles and laughs, lots of They spent a lot of time riding horses and Tuesday went to the Dayton jackpot. It was an uncomfortable night with a few other girls and some nasty glances. Later in the night there was drama that came through a few texts. Morgan got stuck in the middle between Jayden and another girl. IT is so sad and heartbreaking. Girls should be able to be friends with both groups of friends and not be told they have to choose. There were some tears and a lot of unnecessary problems. It has trickled into more families as well. This whole thing is like poison that continues to spread. IT made for some difficult conversations.
Thursday Jackson M came and showed Jayden a barrel horse for sale. It was big, beautiful, powerful and fancy and with a big price tag.I pointed out that buying from Jackson would mean the whole state would know where it came from and it would forever have his label and high expectations with it. We gave a riding lesson in the evening.
Friday morning early, I took Daisy to the vet for her eye surgery. ISU has a vet hospital. It reminded me of taking Jayden to Mayo. The facility was like a children hospital, way too nice and extravagant for animals. It kind of makes me sad the level we have taken animals to. I had to wait, see 3 vets and numerous students. She had to have her eye sedated and scraped to promote healing. Daisy stayed until late in the day for her pick up. I expected to pick her up and make the payment and go. It took an hour and a half just to get her checked out. The scheduling was like Mayo too. You take what you get for appointment times and you revolve your life around it. Daisy came home with so many meds and will need an eye drop for the rest of her life!!
