Vet

Friday Jayden and I spent the day at the ISU vet school. We were prepared for a long day with three horses in tow. We took Tiny to have him castrated. The vets let us go back and watch. That was more than i cared to see. Eagle had x-rays and lameness exams and got injections into his navicular joint. They suggested he have an MRI that starts at $2,000. That was not going to be an option. We like Eagle, he is a big gentle guy and great as a lesson horse. We just want him to be ride able and usable again. He has been very lame for a month now. Ace is the challenge. He has some strange behaviors and Jayden is determined to find the cause. He acts up at the gate when she runs, he has been blowing barrels, and he stands spread out like something is painful. The vets ran a lot of tests, lameness exam, stress test, palpated his kidneys and drew blood. They wanted to do an MRI on him too. We said no. He is a mystery. Jayden is willing to do whatever it takes to get him better. He is a wonderful horse and can put together an amazing barrel run when he is on. The trouble is, he has been off run after run. She gave him a full 2 weeks off. We were at the vet 9 to 5. When it came time to pay, we were told that $200 of our bill had been paid for by an anonymous person. Shock and awe at the kindness of a total stranger. Jayden realized it was a person on her barrel horse world website.
Saturday was a relaxing day, nobody had to be anywhere. I was happy to stay in on such hot days, highs up to 90 with humidity. We thought it would be a nice night to go out with friends, everyone was busy. We thought about a movie, nothing good was playing, so we settled on going out to eat. Sunday our church had a lunch at the park following the church service. Burgers were grilled and food was shared. The kids had a pool party in Fort Dodge for the Webster County 4H kids. Today was a sad day as Larry Ferrari passed away. He had been sick all last week and just moved to a care center. Last night he was taken back to the hospital and he became septic. It wasnt but 15 minutes after Karen had passed the news on about his condition when she called back to say he had passed away.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
