County Fair

7/11/17- 7/17/11 County Fair Week
Tuesday was county fair judging day. We finished up projects to the last minute. We have done projects for so many years that I just don’t get into it as much. I want the kids to want to do 90% of their project. Mom and grandma shouldn’t be doing quite so much. They have to learn to do these things on their own and want to do them. Jayden had one project, a binder and write up all about her Youth Horse Development project. Last minute I told her she needed a poster to promote it and for the judge to have a visual. Jake had 5 photos, of which 3 got held back for state. He also had a 4H poster that he drew a tractor with a spreader spreading 4 leaf clovers. That got held back too. He had his glove safety project that Grandma helped him with and was held back. He entered a drawing of a truck and trailer in front of a stockyard that he colored and that represented his Dad’s pickup and how he would renovate it. That got held back. He had a good day. In the end, his glove safety went on to the Iowa State Fair.
After judging, Jayden, Jaynie, Rylie, Maggie, Jake, and Luke went to the FD water park. I try to make special outings with the cousins.
Wednesday was the calm in the middle of the storm of busy.
Thursday  we tried to stay in and prepare things for our stay at the fair. We loaded the horses and headed to the fair around 6. Sadly Eagle would not go this year. We had to make the decision a few days ago. He has been really lame on his right front. We have been giving him medicine, had the farrier put gel pads on his feet, and even had the vet inject. None of that helped. Jake was bummed, but also relieved he didn’t have to worry about competing. Jayden took Tiny and Joker to the fair. The boys helped unload and get the horses settled. We decorated stalls with the 80’s theme. Jake came up with the 80’s idea earlier this summer and the horse project group voted for it. We had old records and Jake and Grandma made a big boom box. After we got horses settled and walked around the fair, we settled in the camper. Jayden didn’t want to stay the first night so she took the trailer back home and did chores for all our other animals.
Friday was the beef show and I watched Jaynie and Maggie show their cattle. I always hope the cousins would watch and support Jayden during her horse show. Troy and Jaynie watched a couple classes over the weekend. The boys ran around all day with friends, going in livestock barns . Luke had his flip phone so I could always find him. The boys and I went home in the afternoon, I took a shower and did some laundry. Luke and I headed back late evening. Jayden had gone up to the fair in the morning and spent the whole day. She rode her horses, gave baths, fed and cleaned stalls in the evening.  We took showers in the camper and went to bed around 11. I love having the horse trailer/camper. It is so nice, it is prefect. I was able to take a shower, keep cool, have food, and sleep. It really is a luxury. At 12:30 at night fireworks were going off, then our neighbors were loud and having a party 3 feet from our camper. I didn’t sleep well.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
