My cousin Laura's oldest son, Austin got married on a Sunday afternoon in Minnesota. Luke and I drove with my parents to a little town called Cottage Grove. Our drive was interesting with Granma and Grandpa bickering over what to order for lunch, what road to turn on, and general directions. We made it to our hotel with only an hour until wedding time. We arrived to a God given prefect day with sunshine and no wind. They venue was beautiful. Because the bride grew up close by and knew the family, and because it was a Sunday wedding, they got a great deal on the awesome venue. The wedding took place outdoors in a wide open grass area. The wedding party and bride crossed a bridge along a walkway. The social hour had a bar room that was elegant with couches and lights. There were games and fire pits. The meal was served in an enclosed barn type building with chandeliers. There was a separate area for the dance. As the sun went down, it got quite chilly. They had overhead space heaters to keep things nice and warm. Everything was awesome and special, the ceremony was sweet with scripture about relationships and marriage. There was an elaborate tree house where the bride and groom got to have a brief stay. The tree house was available for viewing and it was awesome. The whole day was perfect and I enjoyed getting to see Laura too.
On Monday morning we had breakfast at the hotel with Laura and Mark, Jolene and Duane before heading out. Luke was hopeful that he could roam Cabela's with Grandpa on this trip. Grandma told us it was closed on Sunday, however if we had left early enough, we could have made the stop on the way up on because it was in fact open. On the journey home, we went to Carina's grandfather's visitation from 1-3. We hurried to get there only to find out that bowling couldn't start until after 3. Again, we could have routed along the interstate having time to make the stop at Cabela's before the visitation. Once we were at the visitation it was 30 miles back in the opposite direction, so we headed on home. Luke was bummed and it was bad planning that could have gone better. That very morning Wade got Alivia her own brand new snowboard and season pass. Luke and I were just discussing the season pass and buying a board that very morning. Neither seemed logical to me and I explained the reasoning. It is hard to compare how we do things with how others do things. Sometimes it really doesn't seem fair from the kids' perspective. I always tell them you can't compare yourselves to others, everyone has different ways of doing things and we can only worry about ourselves. The kids have to work hard to earn their money, but when they do spend it, they appreciate the reward so much more. We can afford things, we could give our kids anything they want, but we choose not to. Learning to want something, learning to work for something, and learning to wait for something, and even having to go without that certain want, are all good for a kid learning life lessons. Our trip home took longer as we routed along some side roads. It was a pretty time of the year and a beautiful day.
