In March Jake hit a deer with his truck. It was good and bad. It was good he did not wreck, it was bad that it damaged his truck. It was good he did not get hurt, it was bad he had to get a new bumper. It was good he got to get a chrome bumper, which he liked better anyway, it was bad his truck had to go to a shop for a long wait for repair. It was good the deductible was able to cover his air conditioning, it was bad the A/C quit after a short time. Jake's truck sat at the repair shop for over a month. Jake was so anxious to get it back, he would drive by to check on it and see about the progress, it was killing him. In the mean time, he had to drive Grandpa's little Ford around. When he got it back, it sure looked good with that new chrome bumper.
In April the truck was leaking fuel out of a hose, a very dangerous situation! It took Jake searching under the hood and revving the engine and searching around to figure out what the problem was and once he discovered it, we had to get it to a shop. I don't completely understand all the dynamics, but having his Dodge worked on is not easy. You just can't take it anywhere because of the turbo. We took the truck to Ames Diesel Performance. After another long wait, it was ready for Jake to pick up. Within minutes of driving it through Ames to meet me, he got pulled over by a female cop for the dark windows. His truck is a cop magnet, loud, raised, and dark windows. The cop was nice and let him go without a ticket. That same evening, Jake discovered empty beer cans in his truck bed. He was so mad. I was mad too, that cop could have spotted those in his truck bed and got him for possession or open container, etc. Jake sent a text message back to the repair shop owner with a photo of the beer cans and the guy responded with a text that Jake showed me. He used some bad words and said sorry about that man. Wow, so professional! I can't believe how businesses are run theses days. What a bunch of thuds. They will not be getting our business. They fixed the problem, but also damaged the hinge on the hood of the truck so it would not stay up when open.
Not long after, the transmission went bad in the truck. It took awhile to find a mechanic that could work on the truck so it sat for over a month again. Mark was helpful and making sure the truck got fixed and split the hefty bill with Jake. I didn't think Jake should have to pay, but Mark wanted Jake to understand older vehicles and how much time and money go into keeping them going. On Jake's wages, all his money goes right back into vehicles.
