Brushy Creek

After we watched Jayden pull away to Ok for her last semester of college, we felt a heaviness. I think we both know it will be different. She will graduate in December and won't be moving back home. Why is it so sad? We should be happy and excited for her. It's the distance, she is just too far. I didn't want to feel sad all day and it was going to be a beautiful day with sunshine and 70's. One of those perfect Iowa days that are far and few between. I told Mark we should go to Brushy Creek, and just like that we started packing and planning. It kept our minds busy and we hadn't been trail riding or camping at Brushy in a long time. We took Tex and Weenie in the big Bloomer. I have been wanting to take the Bloomer camping several times every year and it never happens. It took most of the morning to get things all ready and we got to the campground right at noon. We ate a picnic style lunch, set in our chairs and read a book and relaxed. Then we saddled up and went for a nice ride. The horses did great and we rode out on the sand bar and all along the trails. It was a lovely day. Our two palominos are so gorgeous, Tex the light palomino and Weenie the golden palomino with the long flowing mane. When tied, Weenie broke loose and I was worried he might pull back and break lose again in the night, so I wrote our phone number on his fly boot, just in case. I got the grill going with charcoal and cooked some brat patties for supper, and we sat around the campfire until late. The next morning I got the fire going for eggs and bacon. There is just something about a morning campfire breakfast that I love. Hearing the horses nearby munching their hay, the quiet sound of horses around the campground, the cool morning as the sun slowly climbs, and the sizzle and smell of bacon over an open fire. It is so peaceful.  I know this is why my aunt Alice loved her many camping trail rides. We went for another ride and had my favorite hobo pack over the fire, grill beef patty, potatoes, and carrots. I wished we could stay a second night, but one was better than one. We had a nice time and hope to go again soon.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
