Our Friends

Most years we take a weekend to getaway after harvest. This year Mark and I went to Cedar Rapids to see our good friends, The Buhr's, who recently moved. We drove to Cedar Rapids Friday night and stayed downtown. We went to a Czeck Slovak history museum on Saturday, then went to our friends to watch the ISU football game in their new house. We got the full tour of their new spacious home. It is amazing. I thought the Ames home was really nice, this one doubles the size and is awesome. Vaulted ceilings, giant rooms, new, very nice. The kids were all home, the boys, the girls and the boyfriend. Abigail was excited to see us, she is 3 and so adorable. We got to see the second half of the ISU game and it was a rowdy one. Baylor and ISU got into a few fist fights on the field. Things got pretty ugly and both teams had players disqualified and escorted off the field. I had never seen such aggressiveness. ISU won yet another game. After the first ISU game of the season, a freshmen Quarterback, Purdy, had been playing a dominating. He passes excellent and can run the ball. He is super fun to watch and his turned me into a fan. I am getting more and more into the games. Jayden follows Purdy on Instagram and he is a Christian posting bible verses. That makes me an even bigger fan. Go Cyclones!! He has led the team to 5 straight wins! Later in the evening, we went out to dinner at a nice restaurant.. Sunday morning we met up and went to the Buhr's church in downtown Cedar Rapids called Veritas. We hear Cornerstone mention the church quite often, it is one of their church branches. It was a great sermon on the order within a family. God-husband-wife-children. Something that is really mixed up in a lot of homes and society. After church we went to the Buhr's where Angelia made us a home cooked meal and we sat in her new dinning room. She was so excited to use her new dinning room for the first time. She had a giant table and hutch custom made by the Amish. It was solid and gorgeous. We enjoyed our visit with our friends. We are sad that they had to move so far away, but glad we can still get together. Over the weekend, Jayden had Brianna come and stay at our place and then at the dorm. With Brianna driving they got into a fender bender. Jake was home also and Mr. polite and helpful. He took Brianna's truck and washed and cleaned it all out for her. In the evening he took them out to eat at the Pig and drove his Ford truck. He had a good time and made the girls laugh. Luke spent the weekend between grandparents. Night one with Karen and Orie and Saturday morning to the 4H shooting class, then back home to Grandma and Grandpa Wahlert's.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
