Jayden got home from working her first shift alone on Thursday at 11PM. She worked as hostess from 4:30 until 9:30 at Boulder Tap House. There was an ISU basketball game so it was crazy busy. Her only help was another guy who was still training. Jayden said it was so overwhelming, but she was able to handle it well. She had large numbers of people waiting and large groups to seat. She had to pull tables together too. IT doesn't pay well enough for all that she has to do on a busy night.
Friday she was out of bed early for the farrier at 9AM. She was planning to go to a big barrel race with her friend Erica who invited her to go along, haul together and stay together. All was on schedule until Erica decided to leave at 8AM. I thought that was very inconsiderate as she knew there was no way Jayden could leave until afternoon. That left Jayden on her own again having to haul by herself. She took two horses Astro and Joker to Kirkwood. Day one she knocked a barrel on Astro and fell in between placings with Joker.
Day two Astro took the third wide and Joker ran up the side of the pen as Jayden describes as being a raging idiot. Even though Astro's run wasn't ideal she still got 2nd in the 3D which qualified her for the Bonus finals a big barrel race later in 2019.
Saturday night Karen planned a birthday party for Orrie with all the family. We had homemade noodles and chicken which was amazing. I kind of felt like a wallflower, nobody really seemed to notice I was there other than Karen and Orrie, Blake and Ali. I did visit with Tim, but that was all. Family gatherings are so odd. Abby brought out all her Mary Kay make-up to sell and the girls did makeovers. Jayden was at her barrel race all day and drove home alone from Cedar Rapids with the truck and trailer by herself. The roads were not the best, icy and it was cold. She got home unloaded her two horses, fed them and made it to Grandma's toward the end of the night. She was exhausted and needed a shower. She didn't want to miss out on cousin time, so she headed right over to Grandma and Grandpa's. The girls were so into the make-up sales they didn't spend mush time with Jayden. It makes me sad, Jayden loves her cousins and wouldn't miss the chance to see them all.
Shortly after her 19th birthday Jayden went and got herself a tattoo! I was a little surprised. She had talked about getting one, but I was kind of hoping she would just keep talking about it. I couldn't really say to much about it, having one of my own. Mine is silly and I wouldn't do it again. If I could I would have done something different and more meaningful. Jayden chose an A with a spade. To her it represents her first barrel horse, Ace. He is the horse that got her really hooked and loving the sport of rodeo and she says Ace is really gritty.
