Labor Day weekend was pretty quiet, well except for thunder and lightning. On Friday Jake went to spend a couple nights with grandparents Mawgee and Peepaw. Jayden came back from college and must have been missing me because she wanted me to go on a 4 wheeler ride with her. She was in a silly mood, put on a pair of ski goggles and tore through the hay field with me on the back. That girl can make anyone's day and always spreads some joy.
Jayden, Luke and I decided to go to the Dayton PRCA rodeo. It was a low spectator night. I was surprised to see the parking lot so empty, and no line to get in. We had plenty of spots left on bleachers and hardly any people on the grass hill. Jayden went with her friends after the first event and Luke and I sat on a blanket on the hill. One of my favorite parts of the rodeo is hearing rodeo announcer Boyd Polhamus give the prayer. Each year for as far back as I can remember, he shares a strong prayer about having respect for many faiths, but his prayer is in the name of Jesus Christ and then he proceeds to share the gospel. His prayers are so profound and his deep voice is one that you pay attention. All those people on the hill and behind the bucking chutes get to hear him share the word and his love for Jesus through the sport of rodeo. The rodeo was entertaining, most of the contestants seemed average calibur. For crazy entertainment, they had two people with a giant inflatable bubble that each person was inside with only their legs exposed running in the arena with a bull. They had to run the barrel pattern and whoever crossed the finish line first won $100. That was beyond crazy! Obviously one major factor was the ball was inflatable. Sure enough, the ball got popped and the person was within inches of their life. The guy was wearing a protective vest that the bull managed to hook with his worn and toss in the air along with what was left of the ball. People do some pretty crazy things for a little bit of cash. Its pretty horrible and I hate to watch. I took this photo from a photographer that posted it on the local town page. The wild horse race is always wild too. The entertainment was a motorcycle who does freestyle jumps off a ramp. That made Luke nervous to watch, just like his mom. After the rodeo, Jayden wanted to go dance for awhile with her friends up town where they had a live band. I am trying to be encouraging of her being more independent and know that she isn't far from being 19. I told her she could go for awhile and I would pick her up, yes i am a great mom. The two girls of course could not get into the saloon , so I went to pick her up. I parked my car across the street and shut my lights off. Once Jayden was in the car, I proceeded down the street, only to see flashing lights and a cop in my rear view. I was pulled over waiting for him to pass thinking, surely he wasnt stopping me, I didnt do anything wrong. He came to my window shined his light in my face and told me that I had my headlights off. I was so embarrassed and explained. He was nice and understanding. I also had to rummage through my glove compartment to find paper work. That was a challenge. In the end I turned my headlights on and he told me I was all good. Oh wow! Jayden and Luke were freaking out. Jayden was more in pure laughter and taking selfies and photos of the cop car while Luke was silent in the back, probably shaking. We laughed all the way home.
