Fear is a liar.... I love this song written by Zach Williams.
The song has been playing in my head over and over as I remind myself not to be fearful. Fear has crept in over this past week. Fear for my daughter, fear for college girls, fear for women, fear for myself, fear of attackers. I fear safety. On Monday morning in broad daylight an ISU golfer was attacked, stabbed, and murdered. Celia Barquin Arozamena was from Spain majoring in Civil Engineering at ISU. She was the ISU 2018 female student athlete of the year. She was an NCAA conference champion golfer with a long list of accomplishments. She was on the golf course Monday morning practicing when a 22 year old homeless man cam out of his wooded living area, assaulted and killed her. Horrific. Just a month ago the body of college student Mollie was discovered, who also was attacked and killed. The killing of Kathlynn in Dayton Iowa 5 years ago was a similar ruthless, evil, attack. Our justice system is lacking, these attackers have a history, illegal immigrants, or previous inmates, or multiple criminal records. They shouldn't even be out there. The democratic party is so flawed and has softened our justice system, it has created a lot of hand slapping punishment instead of being locked away. This homeless man had quite a background and was released from prison in June. He was homeless and now his life just got better. He went from living in a shanty to having a roof over his head, a soft bed to sleep in, tv to watch all day, 3 hot meals a day and won't have to work or have a job. He is a criminal and yet he will leave an easy life in prison. Something is so very wrong with this picture. The tragedy is beyond awful and my heart breaks for the victim, her college friends, roommates, professors, coaches, parents, and fiance.
I think of the safety of women, the college students, our daughters. That very morning Jayden got done with classes early and headed home to ride her horse. She walked from her dorm to the football stadium parking lot less than a half mile from the attack and at about the same time this all happened. It is terrifying. She has to walk alone sometimes and she is so vulnerable. She is a beautiful, young, small, blonde walking alone. It is so sad that you don't feel safe anymore walking, jogging, or going anywhere alone. I do fear for Jayden. I want her to always walk with a friend, carry her pepper spray, stay off her phone, and pay attention to her surroundings. We live in such a dark world full of broken people with more and more mental issues. I know the violent shows, movies, and video games have to have something to do with all of this. The social media, the media that is constantly negative showing so much hate, bullying, and shootings. It is getting to these people.
I put my trust in the Lord and pray for his protection over my kids. We can go through day after day being fearful, worrying about everything, but God has a plan. His ways are good and he knows when and how long we will be on this earth. We just have to be assured that our faith is in him and someday we will be in heaven. The most important thing is to know Jesus and that we will have eternal life and to make sure our families will as well. Celia is there, She loved Jesus and on KCCI during the candle light vigil one of her dearest friends talked of her commitment for Jesus and how she lived a life of joy and compassion. Jesus was her friend and she desired to know him more. Praise God she is in heaven and may her love for Jesus be passed on to those who knew her. Though I did not know her, I will not forget her.
