Go ISU... or Not

Mark doesn't enjoy going to Iowa State football games. I think the last time we attended a game was when we were newlyweds. He gets tickets now and then, but passes them on to our hired men. An invitation came in the mail for an ISU pre-game party for the college of Ag. With it we got a catered meal from Hickory Park, got to see booths from some of the college clubs, hear an Ag student country band perform, and get a shuttle ride to the game. With that, I told Mark we needed to go and I got tickets for us and Jayden and Jake.  I was hoping I would run into some old classmates and friends, but they were mostly older alumni. It was a nice meal and Luke really enjoyed the balloon maker. We decided to park at the Hanson center where the event was held and walk instead of taking the shuttle. It was probably a mile walk, but it was a nice day. Everywhere you went within a mile of the stadium people were walking to the game.
Our friends the Buhr's were going to meet us at the game and try to sit together. Anyone can sit on the side hill in the grass, first come first serve. After walking through the tailgaters section, we found our spot on the grass. Our cell phone reception made it hard to meet up with our friends and we never did end up sitting together. The grass was still damp from all the recent rain and the sky was looking like rain. We came prepared with rain coats, but the radar and forecast showed it was all to the south. There were tons of people and the football teams were so hyped and full of energy. The band was playing and the flag girls twirling. My friend Shawna's daughter made the flag team and I was excited to see them perform at half time. The game started off with an ISU touchdown in the first play. 3 minutes into the game an announcement came on the screen stating a weather alert. We all thought it was a joke or part of getting the fans hyped. But then we saw the whole football team leave the field. IT was just minutes and it began to rain. We headed under the stadium where we were blocked from the rain. People were leaving in lines, and yet others stayed put. We didn't know what to do. The radar showed a small cell coming. we thought we would wait it out and they would continue playing after it passed. IT kept raining and lightning started. After about an hour we started back. Fortunately we were able to catch our shuttle back to where we parked. It was an adventure, but disappointing we missed the game. The game was held off for two hours before the finally cancelled. We went to the Buhr's home for awhile before heading home. i sat and played on the floor with Abigail. We knew this would be the last time we set foot in their house. In 14 days, they officially move to Cedar Rapids.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
