Sometimes in the middle of the busiest times, out of nowhere, you just stop and take a break. This week and the next are the two busiest weeks of my summer with the days being overbooked, drivers ed, swim lessons, guitar, taekwondo, wedding, 4H conference. After Jayden and Mark took the trip to Oklahoma, this was the week Dianna would deliver the two new horses and stay. She also brought along a friend to help with driving the 8 hours. I cleared some things off my agenda that I would have to make up later. On Wednesday Mark and I took turns running Jake into Dayton and back for driver's ed class and a later drive time. It was a crazy weather day. I had taken Luke to swim lessons and a tornado alert came across my phone. Listening to the radio it was all near home, Jefferson, Paton, Harcout. Luke and I hurried home before it was close by. Mark had to get his hired men out of the grain bin and was headed to drivers ed with Jake. He saw the funnel clouds and once in Dayton the sirens were going off and they wanted them to take shelter in the school. They waited a bit, then headed home. Ali was at work in Fort Dodge and had to take shelter in Target. There were funnel clouds but it never did turn into anything.
I rushed around cleaning my house and fixing a nice supper. Diana got to our house at 8PM. We got the new horses settled and then I heated up their supper. They were very grateful and Dianna is really talkative. Over the couple days, she told us so much about her whole life, childhood, married life, God story, kids, rodeo, health, you name it. She is quite a character and has a southern drawl. She is into Young Living oils and even brought her table and gave me a Rainbow technique oils massage. Having all my recent back pains, I was grateful. Dianna spent the morning coaching Jayden with Astro. He is a 6 year old grey gelding. Just watching her on that powerful horse made me super nervous. He is so full of energy and really doesn't have a slow gear in him. He reminded me of the grey horse she sold. He was also skiddish. I think he just needs to trust a new owner. He has roped off and hauled to a few barrel racings. Dianna and her husband have a unique way of training horses. They start right in with them chasing fast cattle and roping. The teach them to run first thing. They don't ground break and lunge or teach them all the "buttons". Dianna says she likes to just go in and make a run, no pocket, just sit back and turn. She wants a horse that will run and win.
I got on Wes and walked him slow. I couldnt really do much more than that because of my back. From watching Jayden ride him, he seems to be in a fast gear as well. He has a pretty strong trot and lope. He is a sorrel gelding, age 9 that has been roped off a lot. Mark is excited to rope off him.
