4/22/17 The Rouge Rodeo hosted its first rodeo in Elkahart at the Prairie Rose arena for IRCA. It is just an hour from home and in a nice big indoor arena. Jayden was so excited to get the rodeo season rolling. Luke is a great traveling partner and likes to tag along whenever he can. Ace ran a good pattern for Jayden and put her in the money at 6th place and $222. Let the rodeo season begin. I am hoping Jayden and Ace can have more good runs than bad and can make place at a few, win a rodeo, and make it to finals.
5/13 The second IRCA spring rodeo at Elkhart. I was the driver and it would be my first outing with the big Bloomer horse trailer. It is long, and it is heavy. Mark did some major tuning up on the Dodge pickup, so now it sounds like a semi. No more emissions, a big exhaust, and a tuner. It is loud! The ruck also has a tow haul and a Jake break. I was pretty nervous driving the first time. The route was simple, 30 to 35 and off the exit to Elkhart and then out on a county road. I left early so I could find a good parking spot. The Elkhart Prairie Rose arena got some rain in the hay field surrounding it so nobody could park nearby. It was onto the gravel roads. We were quite a ways from the arena and we got their early. As the night went on more and more trailers pulled up parking a mile in each direction along the gravel roads. It was crazy. The worst part was when it got dark it was pitch black out there and everyone had to walk a block along a highway with horses. It was dangerous. The rodeo announcer did an excellent job announcing each person and had a card he read off about each person. When it cam to Jayden he said her name and that she was the reserve champion rookie of the year, winner of Marshalltown rodeo, and year end finalist. That sure made her feel good and i a bit proud. It kind of feels like your at the NFR and the announcer is bragging them up. Ace started out with a pretty good run. He came into the third barrel and went to bucking all the way home. He was at a full run bucking and I was amazed that Jayden stayed centered and on. She did it like a pro and got him stopped. I have seen girls come off for little hops or a quick turn. I was impressed with her riding. However, what on earth the problem was, we have yet to figure out. Ace was not himself, kicking at the ground and throwing a fit in the trailer.
