5/22 Kyle K has been our horse shoer for many years. He has been kind and friendly. Standing with a farrier for hours gets very long and boring. He is good at making conversation and has been pretty good to us. He likes to tease and talk with Jayden. He has helped us in a few binds and always comes out to put a pulled shoe back on within a day or two. As we have acquired more horses I have noticed Kyle getting a little more annoyed in having to shoe and trim so many. In fact we have decided on trimming some and just doing front shoes on some. it is also a big expense for all the horses to have all 4 shoes and Kyle insists on a 7 week rotation all year round. Recently he asked if he could start coming out on Sundays and working on our horses all day. I like to keep Sundays as much a day for the Lord as possible. We do church, we do connection group, and we do family. Unfortunately at times other things get planned like 4H meetings and things I can't control. I dont like to fill Sundays and it shouldn't be that way. I also didn't want to be the person that schedules Kyle for all day Sundays so he can have time with his family too. Today when Kyle trimmed our horses I could tell he was acting different and then he confronted me and told me this would be our last shoeing with him. He also told me that I made him feel awful by telling him Sunday was a family day because he has kids and a family too. Somehow he took it way out of context. I was pretty shocked, but it was Kyle that made the choice. He also seemed to be losing his patience with the horses. He told me he was reducing his number of clients, but I didn't think it would end quite like this. Sadly he will not return and really leaves us in a bind,it is super hard to find a good farrier.
Saturday night, Jayden competed in Elkhart for an IRCA rodeo. On Sunday, we slept in. We were just too tired from the night before. It was a very cold day in the 50’s. We went to Emma Graves graduation. She has a love for horses that her mom says I got started. She took her first riding lessons from me on Joe several years ago when she was around 6. I will never forget the first riding lesson when she showed up in pink cowgirl boots and a mini skirt. Her plans are to go to ECC in Ellsworth and major in Equine Science. It will be fun to see where her path leads.
