Markets and Social Media

Mark has had a very rough week, in fact he told me this was one of the worst weeks of his life pertaining to markets. He is so knowledgeable about markets, he reads them daily, sometimes hourly. He studies them and the past and trends. He makes decisions with his corn and cattle based on them. We are in the start of a drought and he has been trying to predict the future, which is completely impossible and we are always reminded who is in control. Mark beats himself up when he doesn't make the right choice. His father doesn’t help matters either. He will remind Mark for months and years of what he should have done. Farming is stressful and hard. Farmers work so hard and yet get paid so little. It blows my mind that something that provides for the entire world, food, is valued so little. People such as actors, athletes, singers, and coaches get paid millions of dollars for entertainment. We could survive just fine without those things, but food on the other hand, people cannot survive without. Farmers should be paid the most for their hard work and crucial food supply. They should be treated with the most respect.

In my “Crazy Busy” bible study we talked about social media and how it affects our lives. I have to make myself set limits. I know how easy it is to sit down on Facebook and spend mind numbing hours scrolling and reading, looking at pictures and videos. Yes, I do enjoy seeing old friends, what they are up to and seeing their children. It is a handy way to stay in touch and communicate. I have made a point to stay away from facebook and I typically check it a few times a week. I only post weekly and only things that I really think are funny or neat of my family etc. I think social media is a big Satan trap and it is consuming people. Jayden spends a lot of her free time scrolling through facebook, twitter, and Instagram. She is always showing me posts and videos. She also Snapchats her friends throughout the day. Social media is is all about "Me". She is often caught smiling for selfies. On average kids take dozens of selfies a day and communicate through snapchat. The social media is consuming our kids!! I see it all around everywhere I go. It is sad and scary to me to think what the future will hold for these kids.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
