A Hot Week

6/16/16 The heat is on!! June has started with a heat wave. After the first week of June the temps rocketed in to the 90’s and has been there ever since. It is way to hot, way to early. We are not enjoying the heat and it is frying things. Twice this week storm clouds gathered and rain came down nearby, but not here. I really hope and pray we are not in for a long hot dry summer. Mark predicted a drought this past winter. He has been talking about the drought ever since. I think he is right on. Wow this week. I am trying not to use the word busy, but my week was another full one. I am really trying to lighten the schedule, but it isn’t happening. Tuesday through Friday swim lessons, 5-6. Monday we took Jayden to Omaha for her follow up doctor appointment. We made a stop on the way and found the boys a saddle that we will all share. Tuesday I had bible study in the morning, ran some errands in Ames and met with Angelia for a couple hours at Tropical smoothie. Wednesday Mark and Jayden sorted cattle early in the morning. Later the vet came to vaccinate and check our horses. That was supposed to take an hour or two. The vet was two and a half hours late and with her teaching vet students took 3 hours. Made for a long day and then we had to be in Ames for swimming, get back home to see the cattle load and Jake road in the semi all the way to Tama with the trucker. He had a great time and loved it.
Thursday after Jake’s late night, he was up early to help Deck work on the old Chevy. *****Pic He went to his shop and watched and assisted him in fixing the window and a few other things. Jake really likes the old truck and is claiming it as his own. In the afternoon we went to Ames early so Jake could join his church small group for a game of bowling. The boys seemed to have a good time and all but one of the ten boys made it. They have such fun leaders that are young and like to hang out with the boys. It was good to have them all get together. Then it was on to swim lessons. The boys are both doing so good. Luke jumped off the diving board!! The boys have learned the breast stroke, front stroke, side stroke, back stroke, elementary back crawl and front crawl. That’s a lot to know and they are learning well.I am thankful for their teacher and teaching environment, it is ideal. Swim lessons were for 8 lessons in Ames  with Liz. This is the second year at Liz’s home and we love her. She is such a great teacher, patient, encouraging, and good at what she does. I love to watch the boys progress during her lessons.

On  the weekend, the boys went with Grandparents and I went to the annual homeschooling conference in Des Moines. I enjoy the motivational speakers and take a lot away. I also get to browse all of the cool curriculum which I want it all. There are so many choices and ideas. Mark took Jayden to her rodeo in Albia. Last weekend it was so cool we were chilly wearing jackets and today was the extreme opposite. Last weekend jayden ran in slack at 11PM. We were happy at first when we heard slack would be run in the afternoon before the rodeo at 1:00 knowing it would not be a late night home. However the forecast showed near 100 degrees and would be terrible hot. It was a long and hot day for them. Jayden talked her Dad into taking her pup Tuff along. I heard he was a good pup. It was a long 3 hour drive to the rodeo and upper 90’s. It was a long hot time and a knocked barrel at that. Well, Jayden got to spend the day with her Dad, just the two of them and that doesn’t happen very often.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
