4/11/16 Monday was our first day in the field spring planting. We are one of the few farmers that plant 100% corn and no soybeans. Friday
we had the Ogden homeschool Food Fest. Each family that participated chose a
country to learn about and make food from. We chose Germany because so many of
our ancestors are from Germany and we have been studying World War II all
semester. The boys helped with the information and we made German Apple Dip. It
is very yummy and tastes a little like cookie dough. It has cream cheese,
pecans, chocolate chips and coconut in it. There were 4 families that
participated all with younger kids. All of the kids were super shy and quiet
and my boys even froze being in front of a large group. Mawgee came down and Po
came as well. There was lots of fun food to sample and interesting displays.
When we got home, Michelle delivered our newest farm animals, our very own chickens. We got 6 week old hens and put them in a cage and under a heat lamp. I hope we can keep them alive and the pets will leave them alone, especially Tuff who seems very interested.
Saturday we had Libby’s bridal shower. Abby, Torrie, Jossie, Maggie, and Kallie Mae are the bridesmaids and were part of the shower. After that, I took Luke for his soccer pictures. I was kind of upset as only 3 of the 8 showed up, who wants a team photo?
Sunday- I wanted to attend church in Ames for a few reasons, 1 I miss it and like to go once in awhile, 2 they were having Bag hunger day and I wanted our family to help, and 3 I wanted to get together after and have lunch with Buhr’s. It all worked perfectly and a bonus, my favorite pastor came to speak, Pastor Paul Sabino. He has been in Cedar Falls since the planting of Candeo. He talked of all the amazing growth in the church and how Cornerstone is going to plant a church in Columbia Missouri. How exciting to be a part of something that continues to grow and to see how God is working in so many lives through Cornerstone. Love it!!
Wednesday night the kids and i helped set up boxes for today's Bag the Hunger collection. Todays, helping with the food pantry items did not start off well. We made the effort to get to church on time which was great. I went right over and jumped in to help while the kids saw that Dad was going to get coffee so they followed him over to get donuts and coffee. It kind of made me realize that I can encourage my kids and I can be an example to my kids in the way of serving, but if they don’t see Dad serve, and it isn’t a priority to him, it isn’t going to be to them. Eventually little by little the kids started to help and enjoyed it. Church members brought grocery bags filled with specific items. It was our job to sort them.It went pretty smooth with lots of helpers. Lunch was fun getting to see baby Abagail and the Buhr’s. We were home for a couple hours then we went to connection group.
