4/6/16 When Jayden was a junior 4H member
she interviewed and got to attend a trip to the zoo. This is the junior awards
trip you can get as a 6,7, or 8th grader. Jayden said it was a blast
and really enjoyed it. The kids even spend the night with the animals either
under an aquarium or along side the penguin room. I wanted Jake to have that
experience too. I know Jacob would not feel comfortable going unless he knew
somebody else going. I thought it would be really cool if Rylie and Jake could
go together. The two boys have such a good time when they are together. I lined it up to
take both Jake and Rylie for their interviews. Ferrari’s were not planning to
take Rylie, so it was up to me. The boys got all dressed up and went in for
their interviews. They were pretty excited and feeling pretty good about it. Jake feels pretty good with his tie and jacket. He had to add some shade, hat and toothpick for the car ride.
I was under the impression the interviews were in addition to your 4H involvement and record book keeping. Jake has been very involved, takes projects, does presentations, and his record book. Rylie does not do a record book, presentations, and generally takes one project to fair. I really hoped the boys would both get chosen. Jake said his interview was hard and they asked him about his resume, He also didn't know what they meant by his record book, so that wasn't helping him any. Rylie knew the person that interviewed him, which I am sure did not hurt any. I told the boys not to be discouraged if they did not get to go this year, they had two more years to interview. I told them if Jake got chosen and not Rylie we would just wait and go the next year. Eventually we saw the results and Rylie was chosen and not Jake. I was devastated and very surprised. I didn’t know how or what to tell Jake and I certainly did not understand. I contacted the 4H office and asked some questions. They said Rylie could certainly wait and go the next year. I told Lori that and put the decision in her hands. I really thought she would wait. The whole interview and trip was my plan for the boys to go together. Later I saw that Rylie had gone on the trip. I just don’t get it. Feeling frustrated...
