4/22/16 Jacob attended the Cornerstone
180 retreat. He has never done anything like that, never gone to camp, or spent
a night without being at a friends house or family member. He was pretty
nervous and kept saying he didn’t know what to expect and he didn’t know what
he was supposed to do. The sun was shinning and cool but nice in the 60’s. I
took Jake to Hidden Acres, checked him in and took him to his cabin. He was
staying in the same cabins that Jayden stayed when she went to camp. They do
not have closed windows, only a screen with a fabric cover. They had a space
heater in the center in case it gottoo cold. I thought it would be pretty chilly
and I hoped Jake has enough blankets. There was nobody in the cabin, but most of
the beds were already taken. 2 other boys came in that Jake knew and the three
of them were ready to venture. One boys parent drove up and he jumped out and
they left. The other boys Dad went to the door, handed him his stuff and said bye.
I made sure Jake was settled and I gave a smile and a goodbye and snuck a blown
kiss before anyone was looking. I hope he has a good experience, has lots of
fun, makes friends, and grows in his walk with the Lord.
4/24/16 We didn’t get to church today as Jacob’s pick-up from the retreat was in the morning. Jake was pretty excited to tell us all about his weekend. It sounds like he had a great time. I am so glad. They ate good, played fun games, swam, and spent time in the bible. Aaron G. is in Jake's small group and lives in Dayton. He invited Gabe, Lathe, and cousin Rylie. Jake had all his small group buddies, plus local friends. The last morning, Rylie got sick in the wee hours, threw up, and went home. Not a good way to end camp. Jake also got to know his leaders a little better and had a good time.
Mark got in the field and planted 370 acres today. In the evening, I took the kids and went to Pickles in Kamrar for my mom’s birthday. Wade and Carina were going to take them out for dinner with Alice. Mom mentioned she was going out to eat there so I thought we would show up and surprise her. Evidently mom told several others she was going out to eat there too and soon it was a big ol party with the whole Williams clan. Wasn’t quite the Wahlert bunch I was hoping to have a quiet night with. I finally got to see Alice who has been back in Iowa from Albuquerque for a week already.
