RAGBRAI & Barrel Racing

7/20/15 Monday I took Jayden and Luke to my parents to spend the night and help with RAGBRAI. My parents had a booth in front of the Veteran museum in Williams. They were handing out water and "Stars" and selling candy. Jayden and Luke were their helpers. I think they were very entertained.
After RAGBRAI Aunt Alice took Jayden to meet me at the ISU breel race. This was the last of the series. I ran first in the open on Traveler. I felt we had a pretty good run, but it was nothing fast. The competition is tough and the winning time was a 16.0 and I ran in the 19’s. That puts me in my place. Jadyen ran in the youth running both horses. She ran an 18.2 on Traveler and had a really nice run. Wow, that really humbled me. She is doing great and I am so proud of her, but it really shows me that I just don’t have it any more. I think this cowgirl needs to hang up her barrel racing spurs for good. It has been 7 years since I have competed, maybe more. My goal for this barrel series was to get back into it and improve each time. I don’t think I improved. I am happy to be a rodeo mom. Jayden wants me to complete. I just don’t think its in me. In the meantime, in Missouri, Jake went to KC with Brad and Chan which I was not happy about. Nobody asked and those two drive like maniacs. He came back with all kinds of stories to tell. They went to look at a dozer. Jake tagged along with Lavern and did most of the gravel road driving. He also drove the hay rake. He got to see an old farm equipment junk site and saw lots of amish hore and carts. He was pretty proud and excited about his trip. I am so glad he made those special memories with his great Aunt and Uncle Weilbrenner.  Luke spent the rest of the week with my parents. He enjoyed his one on one time, went fishing, bike riding in town, played checkers, went to the county fair, and saw the races in the VIP box seating with Uncle Wade. He had a good time. Thursday we had serpentine practice. Michelle took Makenna to a rodeo in Minnesota in the Tuff N Nuff series. Skipping serpentine night for a rodeo was already controversial, and going to this rodeo without Jayden, ensured Makenna to top Jayden in the series points.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
