Road Trip Day 3

The mountain air is amazing, cool and crisp in the mornings and evenings and warm and sunny all day. It is a dry clean and fresh air. I woke up early and wanted to walk around our resort. I found the pool, hot tub, volleyball net, and walked through the area. It is small, yet 52 units of people. I was up earlier than everyone else, so I made a quick run to the store for milk and cereal. I saw a man waiting outside with his dog. He appeared to be living out of his backpacks. He had a bedroll and tightly packed bags. He was young, maybe 30. I bought my stuff and a couple boxes of granola bars. I gave them to the man who was very appreciative. He told me that it would taste much better than the oatmeal he had in his pan ready to somehow heat. Looking back, I wished I had done more. I just didn’t know how I would be perceived. Back at the cabin, I saw the neighbors had kids and were outside. They were literally across the street out our door. I took my kids over and introduced ourselves. Three boys, Kamden 9, Charlie, 8, and Cooper 6, and a girl Emma 11.  From that moment on, the kids were buddies. The boys spent every free minute we were at the cabins with the boys.  Late morning we drove a bit into the Rocky Mountain National Park. We drove awhile, climbed some big rocks, and took a walk around a lake, then had lunch at a historic place, the Baldpate. We had a soup and salad meal. That was a first for me, but it was yummy. Back at the resort the sun was shinning and we all went to the pool. It was very relaxing and the kids enjoyed the heated water. The boys found some bikes the could ride just their size and rode all over with the neighbor kids. They had scooters of their own. Luke was scary on his bike  at first. He has only been riding a bike for a few weeks. Never has he been on pavement, or hills, and he isn’t good with  his brakes. I had to show him and he had to figure things out fast with the hilly curves at the resort. We felt safe letting the kids loose to ride. The area was like 3 blocks that all circled back to the main lobby. We just told the kids to be careful and pull off on the grass if a car comes. It is such a family friendly place. Late afternoon the resort had a wine and cheese meet and greet. We went to an amazing BBQ restaurant and had a late 8:00 dinner. Back at the cabin, the boys rode bikes until dark. I just love how this resort is so family friendly. People are out playing catch, riding bikes, and grilling. It is all about quality family time here.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
