Luke
has been accident prone on this trip. Nothing serious, just bumps and scrapes.
He was walking into a restaurant holding Jayden’s hand, tripped over a bike
rack and skinned both knees. At the resort pool, there is an edge to the pool, he was holding his breath, then popped up and wacked his head, got a
nice goose egg. Another time he was attempting to get on the hammock which is
harder than it looks, and flipped and fell hitting his forehead on the pole at the
bottom. That one gave him a nice shiney lump on his forehead. Poor little guy.
We have been to
bed late and up early every morning so far. We were on the road and driving
into Rocky Mountain by 8. We went on a long scenic drive to the top, elevation 12,500
feet, at Alpine look out. We had a scenic drive with trees, mountains, cliffs,
curves. It was beautiful. We saw a group of Elk resting along the road.
The roads do not have but a foot on the edge and yet we met bicycles coming and
going all the way to the top. It is so dangerous! Later into the morning, the more
traffic there was. The temperature dropped the higher we got, down to
53. There was snow at the top and a restaurant, gift shop, and look out point.
We were chilly in our shorts. We felt like we were on top of the world. Mark
and Jake took a long flight of stairs to go even higher. The altitude and thin air was hard on the lungs. We saw a critter called a Marmot.
After we journeyed back down the mountain, we went downtown for pizza and shopping. Mid afternoon our resort had an ice cream social. The kids got in on a game of catching the whip cream in your mouth. Boy was that messy when the whip cream splatted in their face and Luke’s eyes. The kids got in the pool and played with kids for a couple hours. They had contests, who could make the biggest splash, or who could make the silliest jump, etc. They were having so much fun and I was entertained. Mark went to see the Haunted Stanley hotel and to buy groceries. He was in charge of supper. We had a grill and thought we should use it. I thought this would be great and we would save money rather than eating out again. Our total was twice that if we had gone out for steak. Anyhoo, Mark grilled wonderful steak and we had shrimp and side salads. It was so fun sitting outside on our little picnic table enjoying yet another perfect night. We were so thankful for so many things. It got to sprinkling and everyone headed in. Unfortunately, the kids never got to say goodbye to the neighbor boys.
