We
were on the road in good time and drove an hour to Kearney to the Great Platte
Archway museum. It is a museum that is built across the interstate. It was very
cool and we all enjoyed it. The lifelike displays had an audio tour telling of the pioneers
traveling through to Oregon. It went from the wagon trains on to the
railroads, and finally the Lincoln Highway. Jayden and Jacob have learned a lot from the Oregon trail days through Little house on the Prairie and their book series they read in homeschool. It is my favorite time in history. Outside we walked out to see an
Indian wigwam and a mud house. The wigwam would hold around 50 people from 5 to
6 families. It was very cool to be inside it. They had actul modern day indians build it as realistic as possible. It was overcast and breezy, almost felt
chilly in our shorts.
We drove on to Colorado, took hwy 14 and saw some of the
countryside leading into Greely. We ate supper before heading into the mountians. In
Loveland at the foot of the pass into the mountains, the sign said 22 miles,
but it felt like a long drive and took an hour. The roads were windey and twisty. The kids were in awe at how large
and close we were to the rock and cliffs. It was a cool drive.
I teased Mark and Jayden about our cabins. I told them they were rugged and rustic. I wanted them to be surprised because I knew it was a very nice luxurious resort. They are cabins, but you are not roughing it in the least. We arrived at our home away from home at the Ram’s Village just before dark. Our room had a sign welcoming us and we opend the door to one awesome place! Mark was smiling and very relieved. I wanted our stay to be enjoyable by all of us. The cabin was more like a little condo, two story king size bedroom on top floor with balcony, queen bedroom downstairs, living room with sleeper sofa, two full bathrooms, and a large kitchen. The view from the balcony was amazing. They had everything ,grill picnic table, hammock, and even bikes to use. I was jumping with excitement. The kids were running through the cabin yelling "wow!"We were all so happy with our cabin and couldn’t wait for tomorrow. I knew when I walked in, 4 nights and 3 full days was not going to be long enough in a place like this.
