JMO Caffeine

Just My Opinion on Caffeine- When I was a kid there were cigarette ads everywhere, billboards, magazines, and commercials. People smoked like a chimney anytime anywhere. I can remember sitting in restaurants with smoke blowing into your face. I am not sure why it took so long to figure out it was not healthy and quite harmful. Finally the advertising stopped and a few years ago smoking became prohibited anywhere inside a building.   I think caffeine is similar to smoking. This country lives on soda, there are fountain pops everywhere you go, in every convenient store, restaurant, and fast food place. When the kids were little I no other choice at restaurants than pop or water. Why is my only option to give my kid a sugary caffeinated drink because that is what the majority does.  I never let the kids have pop until they were over 6, and not having it as a young child, they really don’t even like it. So many people give their kids soda as soon as they are weaned from a bottle. Caffeine can not be good, it cannot be healthy. I have decreased my pop intake about 2 years ago. I used to have a pop every day after lunch for that pick up when I was feeling tired and whenever we went out to eat. I weaned myself away from it which gave me lots of headaches at first. Now I try to only have pop once a week or on special occasion. It is also costly. When you order a meal at a restaurant, it costs you $2.00 for a pop. With a family of 5, that is $10 extra we are paying at a meal. When we order water, we not only save that money, but the kids eat a lot more of their food because they are not full from high fructose corn syrup.  Now that I am not as used to caffeine, it makes my hands shake and I feel jittery. Most people drink several  coffees in a day and or numerous pops. The latest thing to hit the market is energy drinks- Monster and Red Bull. These drinks have as much caffeine as 7 pops. What!?? Why on earth would anyone need that much caffeine. Kids drink this stuff because it is the newest thing.  People have died from consuming more than one at a time.  Craziness. Teenager girls order Starbucks coffees because it is the cool thing. The espresso drinks are concentrated with 4x the caffeine as a coffee. The frappe, latte mochas  run 6 to $7 a drink. I have hard of  caffeine in gum. Seems such a waste of money to me. I am wondering how long is it going to take before they realize it is not healthy? I think it is highly addictive and even after not having pop for weeks at a time, I still crave it.
In this day and age people work, are involved in church, clubs, school activities, meetings, clubs, and sports. Parents try to juggle all their kids activities and still work a full time job. Work has changed too. People can’t just work 8 to 5 and walk away from their job. Thanks to technology, people are calling, texting, and messaging all day and all night. A job goes home with you and you never get a break. This is where the need for caffeine comes in. Lack of sleep, just load up on the energy drinks, more coffee, more caffeine to get them through the day. One day we will wake up and realize what caffeine is doing to us.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
