Company

All week I have been trying to stay on top of the house because tonight we were having company. Today my focus was to have everything ready by the time they came tonight. I cleaned the grill, the garage, the deck, the windows, pulled weeds, did laundry, dishes, cleaned, and prepared food. Jacob mowed almost the entire yard for his first time on his own. He did a great job and was very helpful. I love the idea of having company to our house for dinner and to invite people to ride horses. I would like to do it often. After today, I am just exhausted and rethinking the whole idea. If it takes that much work just to have company, I am not sure I can do it too often. Our company was the Burr family and they arrived at 7:00. We had the food already on the grill and ready shortly after they arrived. We also had the horses in the arena saddled and ready, and watered down the ground with sprinklers. The adults had steak and the kids hot dogs. The kids happily ate outside on the deck while the adults could have a quiet dinner. After we ate, it was time to ride. Two boys and two girls ages from 8 to 13. The kids were beginners, but after a few laps were fearless. I am always amazed at the confidence in people after such a short time. At first they are reluctant and a little scared. Since our horses are so nice, they gain confidence and soon they want to do it all. Angelia went to loping in just a few minutes on Jayden’s horse Ace. She was loping near a pole when he went to turn hard and fast. She came out of the saddle but was able to stay on. The kids always want to go faster and faster too. I think in the future we are going to have to have some guidelines. It was dark and late when we finished riding. It was so nice out and we had a fire going for smores. We sat around eating smores until 10:30 when it started to sprinkle. I figured this would be good night. The kids wanted to see the toy room and our guests were ready to sit and visit. I was very tired at this point and it had been a long day for me. Everyone went inside and I fought to keep my eyes open as we talked some more. It was late when I crawled into my bed, thankful for friends, and hoping having guests will get easier

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
