There was so much going on in the month of April, I can't even remember it all. We had lots of memorable moments for the month, most have an individual post, but here is some of the extras.
4/26 I went to Bridget's band concert with Karen. She has been part of the honor band. I am not sure all the reasons, but her mom is having her quit. I think it is important for kids to be involved in things, especially if they enjoy it. With nothing to do, no sports or activities, boredom sets in and kids get into trouble easily.
4/28 My cousin John's son Johnny was in Ames for basketball tournaments. I were able to meet up and watch two of his games and to have lunch with them. It was fun to see the 8th grade boys play basketball like NBA players. They are so good! It was fun visiting and getting to know Anne. She is very personable.
Mark has been hosting more roping nights. I enjoy going out and riding and helping for awhile. It just gets to be a long night. Mark runs the steers in the chute, gets them all wrapped and ready. Then we grooms muddy horses and saddles and warms them up. The ropers come and the roping begins. Luke usually runs the chute, sometimes I will run and sometimes we take turns. The more people that come, the more times we run the cattle through. Some come late and it drags the night on. Sometimes we are out for 4 to 5 hours. Sometimes I just stay in the house and let the guys have their own fun. There e are ropers wives that come some nights. At times I just don't feel like being social. Mark really enjoys it and I am glad. It gives him some exercise and it loosens up his stiffness. It gives him something to de-stress and focus on other than work. He likes talking with the guys, and he loves the competition, the challenge and accomplishing it. He feels so much satisfaction in catching and doing well. We also have a couple boys that have roped at our place. I think it is great to see the young kids starting out and with their dad's helping. Luke really isn't too interested but will rope the dummy, run the chutes, and pull the hot heels. He might ride Tex for a few minutes if we ask.
One of the boys' never ending jobs is to wash the semi's. It is a big job and must be done to each semi so they are shinning, clean and ready to roll on Monday mornings. Luke doesn't mind as much when he gets paid.
The boys never have a shortage of things to do. They are both stepping up and really helping out their dad. And of course mowing is a continuous job once the grass is green. The boys have found they like mowing together, it gets the job done faster. They strategize how they mow and which mower they use.
