Luke attended the 4H dog project obedience classes starting in March. It was a nice activity to get out of the house in the wintery months. It gave Luke something to do, something to work at, and something he enjoyed. I told him he could take Buster a few times and decide later if he wanted to show at the fair. I thought it would be great for Buster to get some socializing. I think it would be neat if I could turn him into a therapy dog. Buster has done really well for Luke and has improved with each class. Masks are required just about everywhere these days, however we tend to not wear ours until someone asks us to put it on. 90% of the time, nobody says anything. The first meeting Luke had his mask. The second meeting he forgot his, on purpose, and guess what, nobody said a thing. Lately people are like blind sheep following their flock. Why not be the sheep that doesn't wear the mask and see if others will follow. Sure enough as meetings went on, fewer and fewer masks were seen. I am certain it took Luke to be the leader. The masks are silly and people just follow the rest of the group. Nobody is right or wrong in this thing, it is whatever you feel is right for yourself. We still have freedoms and we need to use those.
Ironically during horse project meetings, I have not seen a single 4H member, parent, or leader ever wear a mask. Many of the early spring meetings were held in the same auditorium as the dog meetings. One horse project meeting the kids got to learn how to rope. Luke was super excited to bring his own rope and show off a little. He was swinging and roping with the instructors. Local roper Travis and leader Nick were teaching the kids and had a tournament. At one point Luke was challenged to rope with the two teachers. After the meeting the three of them had a rope off. Guess who won...Luke. They each gave him a dollar for winning. Boy was he feeling good!
In April the horse project kids met bi-weekly and May and June weekly. I took Luke to several meetings and he practiced with Tex. He is a better rider and gaining confidence on Tex. I have always thought Tex was a hard horse to ride and he is so big and powerful. He is a lot of horse for a kid. I tried to convince Luke to ride ol roan horse, who would be mild and easy, or even Ace. Luke refuses to ride any horse but Tex and he is really having to work at it.
