Animals

We love all our animals and we have so many! Cats, dogs, horse, and chickens. We have nice animals. So here are the members of the herd, flock, pack, pride: Our horses are Tex, Ace, Weenie, and Roany. Jayden has Joker and Breezy. Tex, the big palomino Mark brought home from Texas after an NRS clinic. Tex has been our all around and one of the best! He has had many people on his back from young to old. He has been in Serpentine, 4H county fairs, parades, rodeos, barrel racings, team ropings, ranch rodeos, trail rides, and used for lessons. He is a great horse. Ace is Jayden's semi-retired barrel horse. He still gets ridden by me now and then. He is pretty easy to jump on and is pretty smooth. He is the sweetest horse on the ground. He likes attention, lunges perfect, and will follow you around. In a pen with other horses, he is a beast. He goes into attack mode and will rare, bite, and kick. He is down right viscous at feeding time and could possibly kill another horse. He has to b

Jayden Home Visit From College

Jayden came home for 2 weeks in Iowa before heading back south. Here is a recap of her time here in Iowa. Saturday we drove and drove, and some of us even slept. We all were happy to have her home, even her cat and her horse. Sunday we went to church. It was so nice to all be there together as a family. We ate lunch at our favorite El Azteca restaurant. It was a little on the cool side, with a sweatshirt when we went for a ride out in the hay field with Jayden.   Monday- We started the morning meeting Grandma W. in Ames and spent some time with her. They have missed each other not seeing each other since Christmas. They ate out and did some shopping. I had already had a lunch date planned with my Ames friends and it is hard for the four of us, Laura, Carolyn, and Sue Ann, to all coordinate to meet. Carolyn gave a tour of the Huxley library where she know works. What a perfect job for Carolyn, she is such a social person and gets to work with the children as a program director. Sh

Planting

Our planter didn't move along as smoothly as Mark had hoped. With all the new added technology, we had lots of extra troubles, problems, breakdowns, and glitches. This may have been one of the most stressful times for Mark. The Precision Planting system created a whole new level of problems with a sensor stopping on one row randomly throughout the field. That means no corn being planted in that row. The planter is huge and covers a ton of ground. Mark could plant 70 acres per hour and 500+ acres in one day! It wasn't long ago we would plant 150 acres in one day. We also pulled some fence rows to combine the field around our house. The rows go from one side of the section to the other with mile long rows! This saves time and Mark can plant 20 acres in one round.    Iowa springs are sporadic. We get an amazing spring day followed by intense winds at 25 to 35 mile per hour that blast you. It is terrible to be outside even though the sun is shinning and the temperature is 70 or 80

Keaton Grad

Keaton has worked for us since October 2020. He met Jake through FFA and Ogden Ag classes. He is a kind boy that has a love for the farm. He lives near Boone, has a sister and lives with his mom who works long hours. His dad hasn't been present in his life for several years. We noticed, he doesn't like to spend time at home. He would fill his days and spend as much time as possible on the farm. He wanted to be a country boy and a farm kid. He drives a truck he is proud of and wears boots everywhere. He was the president of his FFA group and involved in welding projects and classes. He is a good kid, liked by the teachers. I am glad Jake has him as a friend. He doesn't like to drink or party, and keeps out of trouble and is genuine. Mark has been giving him roping lessons most of the early spring before we got busy in the field. I gave him several pointers on riding and showed him how to tack up a horse and some riding basics. He seems to really enjoy it and learns fast. He

Experimantal Biological Agent & Vaccine

Experimental Biological agent is what we should be calling the Wuhan Virus vaccine, also known as COVID. Yes it is experimental and humans receiving the vaccine are the experimental rats so to speak. Somehow the vaccine companies are protected from fraud, there is no sense of liability. There is little knowledge of the long term affects or effectiveness of the vaccine. Not enough time or studies can verify it is even safe and it is not FDA approved. All other vaccines require years of testing and research, yet it is being pushed and encouraged and praised. 2/18/21 Fox News host Tucker Carlson expressed skepticism over vaccines against the coronavirus, invoking the severe allergic reaction one recent recipient experienced while warning his viewers that the elites would continue threatening them “unless we take it.” At the top of his top-rated primetime program on Thursday night, the right-wing host—who pivoted from coronavirus alarmist to COVID contrarian months ago—derisively snarked

Tack Room

Mark had a tack room put in our arena to keep our saddles and tack in. He put in a heater and A/C and has a stairway to an overlook. It turned out really nice. He has always wanted a nice place to keep all our tack and supplies. I put one of my favorite drawings that my Uncle Dean created in the tack room. I can remember this cowboy picture when I was a kid and I can remember seeing many of Uncle Dean's' drawings. I also added a horse harness mirror that came out of my Aunt Alice's collection.

Driving Range

It was a rainy week while Jayden was back in Iowa. We still managed to do a lot. One day we took an outing and went to the Grand Junction driving range. Now that Luke has been taking lessons, he gave us pointers to help us out. I think we all have a lot to learn! It was fun, there were divits, and air shots, but it was still fun and entertaining. We also drove by and saw the Jefferson Coop. They had an explosion earlier in the week. Heat and grain dust inside can cause spontaneous combustion and the explosion could be seen and heard for a great distance.

Helping

Many years ago I babysat Mark and Ashley Y. Ashely eventually married, divorced and re-married one of Wade's classmates, Tim B. There is quite an age gap, remember I babysat her. She recently had a terrible accident the end of April. She was in Williams helping at the Hempken car museum when the elevator she and another gal were in plummeted. She  fell some 30 feet resulting in a broken pelvis in several places, broken area in her lower back, broken tibia, and a partially collapsed lung. She was in the hospital for 3 weeks before coming home in a wheel chair. Ashey is strong in her faith and was an inspiration.T his was her post two days after the accident- Friends and family, I don’t even know where to start to thank you all. The road ahead will be long but God is good!! I know I’m not walking it alone. I’ve felt His loving presence the whole time. Physically I’m doing pretty good all things considered, I haven’t talked to many doctors today so I’m not even sure what’s next on th

Prohibit Mask Requirements!

5/20/21 This is fantastic!! Way to go Governor Reynold's! She makes me proud to be an Iowan and proud to have a Governor that stands up for what is right. Washington (CNN)Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds signed legislation into law Thursday that blocks mask mandates from being implemented in K-12 schools and prohibits cities and counties from requiring facial coverings in businesses. Under the new law, public and private schools cannot enforce or implement a policy requiring school employees, students, or visitors to wear a facial covering while on the premises -- unless for a "specific extracurricular or instructional purpose" or as required under existing Iowa law for eye and ear protective devices. Masks can still be worn optionally. Cities and counties will not be allowed to require property owners to have a mask policy "that is more stringent than a policy imposed by the state." While states are starting to relax mask policies in the wake of US Centers for Disease C

Wrapping up the Homeschool Year

Sometimes its fun to catch the boys in their homeschool environment. Next year Jake will be a senior!! Where has the time gone? We just wrapped up our homeschool year, 7 years for this mom/teacher.
