Sheriff

Friday night Jake, Luke, Jayden, and Noah went to look for coyotes. They drove Jake's truck up around the Dayton farm using a spotlight to see if they could find any coyotes. They had a call and spotted a few. Noah had a gun in the truck, unloaded, but out of its case. They never shot anything or attempted to. They drove around for some time before heading for home late, 11PM late. As the approached a stop sign, waiting for a couple cars to pass, a cop came zipping by and pulled up right in front of the truck, shinning it's headlights into the truck and blocking them. A second cop came a few minutes later with a K-9 unit and loud dog barking. Instead of kindly asking to roll down the window, the cop shouted in at them to put their hands on the dash and began shouting at them. Noah told him there was a gun in the back. They pulled Noah out and were rough with him, they asked for all their license, including Luke. They made Luke tell his name, age, address, etc. Luke had his hunting license with him. They explained what they had been doing, but the cop sounded like a real creep. He was ready to slap fines on all of them, but decided to just target Noah. The confiscated his gun, and both spotlights. Apparently one cannot have a gun and a spotlight in a vehicle together. The gun was supposed to be in a case. We also learned it is illegal to hunt using a spotlight. Even though they were not hunting, only spotlighting, Noah got slapped with 3 fines costing him some $600. The worst of it was the cop took his gun. A gun Noah's dad had custom built for him with he was young. He told him the confiscated guns would be at an auction in the spring. The kids sat in the truck almost an hour with the window down in the freezing cold. The cop made them roll the window down and shut off the vehicle. He sounded like a mean dude. Jake had a tire going flat as air was hissing out. The cop just told them they better get help with the flat and left them. They were all pretty upset over the whole ordeal. We are going to fight for Noah's gun if we can. Mark was most upset at how it was handled and has heard many negative things about the cop that pulled them over. It just isn't right.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
