Deer Hunt

When Noah came to Iowa, one of the first things he did was have Luke get his hunting license and a deer tag. He was determined to get a deer while in Iowa. One morning, Jayden, Luke and Noah went out driving and tracking deer. The last day of deer shotgun season was also Noah's last day in Iowa. The 3 of them were up bright and early, 5:30AM for a hunt. At 10:15AM, they pulled in the driveway with a big ol buck.  All 3 of them were telling the crazy story of the deer hunt. Noah had very little time before Jayden was going to drive him to the airport for his flight.
The story as told by the three of them...In the timber northwest of Pilot Mound, while driving in the truck, they spotted a buck. Noah let Luke have his gun and shot the deer in the butt. The buck was hit, but ran off. Noah tracked it on foot at a good sprint. He was determined to get the deer. He ran up ravines and down through snow. At one point Noah was panting so hard as was the deer. They stopped and looked at each other, it was man versus beast. Noah even got so tired that he took a drink straight from a creek. He finally came up to the dee, which was lying down. When he got near, it came at him and attacked him knocking him down and bringing it's antlers down at him.. Noah pulled out his knife and stabbed the deer. He got back from it and threw his jacket over the deer's eyes! While this was happening, Luke and Jayden were trying to find Noah, yelling for him and not even sure they knew how to get back to the truck or where exactly they were. Without a cell phone, they made their way back to the truck and called Noah. He had gone 2 1/2 miles to find the deer. When Jayden and Luke pulled the truck to where the deer was, it jumped up one last time and tried to run off. Thanks to Noah, they got the buck, Luke's first deer. He is a big one too! What a story for all of them to remember and share. We have decided to get it mounted for Luke.

There was much excitement when they pulled into the driveway. I was shocked to see the big buck in the back of the old Chevy. It was cold, in the 20's and Noah was shivering as he was telling the story. I told him to come inside and gave him hot cocoa and made some bacon. He was in a hurry because he wanted to skin and cut the meat before he had to leave. He and Luke skinned the deer, got the head so it was ready to be taken to a taxidermy for a mount and cut the backstrap and the front legs. He did all this while Jayden threw his clothes in a bag and got ready to drive him to Des Moines. They left at 11:15 for a flight at 1:15.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
