It's been a hot summer! We have had so many days in the 90's and really humid days too. I have been getting up early all summer to get outside before the heat is unbearable. I take a morning walk with the dogs. Buster doesn't seem to go out into the hay field unless I am with him. He is pretty reluctant to travel anywhere on our property unless I am with him because of his new invisible fence shock collar. He is still figuring out his boundaries and doesn't want to get shocked. I do hope he figures out he has a large area of freedom and doesn't need me there. On a normal summer, I would sleep until 8 or 8:30. This summer I am up at 7. Jake is up for work each day by 8, Jayden and Luke, I usually wake them by 9. I enjoy the quiet morning walks. Sometimes I will listen to a bible reading or podcast. I send and listen to Marco Polo video messages with friends. By 10 in the morning the heat is on and I don't want to be out unless I have too. Mark has had us all out roping many nights during the week no matter what the heat.
Luke goes to his Grandma Karen's multiple times a week to do odd jobs, washing windows, vacuum, picking up sticks, gardening, and washing vehicles. In return he sits on the computer and plays video games, watches tv, eats lots of Oreos and drinks chocolate milk. I discovered his secret, the milk and cookies. That also explains why he is never hungry at mealtimes after being at Grandmas.
Saturday was a hot and steamy day. In the evening we had cousin Jaynie's graduation party. It was held in the shop and chairs were set outside as well. Because of COVID, attendance is much smaller than it would have been and those that stayed for the entire time were family and relatives. Jaynie is such a sweet girl with a bubbly personality that all love her. She was the homecoming queen and the county beef queen. She participated in most sports and is beautiful. She has an amazing gift in painting, especially cows. She plans to attend college at ICCC for radiology.
Friday morning I took Luke to the Boone county fair to walk around and see some of his friends. Cash was showing cattle and won the rate of gain class. His steer was over 1500lbs and huge. Cash won a super large fancy trophy. CJ and his siblings were also showing, so Luke enjoyed walking around and seeing them. I know he has been missing his friends and thought he would like the outing. It was terrible hot and humid, so I was happy to run errands while he was there.
