Cancelled

"Cancelled" has become the headlines for the past few months, and we are getting tired of hearing it. Last week Luke went to his first 4H horse project meeting and has been more enthused about riding. He has  spent some time on Tex and is gaining confidence. He likes having a purpose to ride. The meeting went great. 18 kids on horses with parents and leaders and not one single mask. It was a hot night and a long boring practice standing with a horse waiting to make one showmanship pattern that took less than 2 minutes. This week we learned the Iowa State Fair has officially cancelled. That fair is so huge for Iowa and has such an impact on so many.  It will be so devastating to so many vendors and exhibitors! I was not surprised, I pretty much predicted it about a month ago. I was jut really hoping to be wrong. Now we sit and wait to hear about our county fair. We keep getting emails. Yes, the fair is on, projects will be judged, then taken back home. No outside vendors or entertainment during the fair. Then it was shows will be bring animals in for the show, then back to home that day. The announcement to cancel the dog show came out Monday. This weeks horse project meetings just got cancelled and I am beginning to doubt there will be a show.
Update- Horse Show "Cancelled"
This summer is cancelled- no swimming pools, no swim lessons, no summer youth group, no state fair.
I learned that the beef, sheep, and hog shows are still on for our county fair. Double standards!! It just doesn't make sense. everything about these virus restrictions are crazy.  Talking about double standards, the riots and protests have been happening in mob groups, yet we are supposed to social distance. People have not been able to hold funerals and have burials for their loved ones, yet after the death of George Floyd, over 6 funerals with mass crowds have been held and protests are encouraged. I just don't understand!

There is so much variation in the mask wearing and restrictions. I had to take our cat to the local vet in Boone. It was like going a human medical doctor but worse. I couldn't even go inside! Really?! I had to call when I arrived, the assistant came out to my car, took my cat, took care of his needs, came back out for my credit card , then returned my cat. All the while, the assistant was wearing full mask, gloves, and surgery gown. Wow! Are we afraid of spreading the COVID to the pets or are the vets that paranoid.
Sunday evening I took Luke to his first 4H Shotgun discipline class. Once again, no masks, a meeting was held followed by shooting clay pigeons outside. I think Luke is really going to enjoy it. He shot over half. I was pretty impressed with his shooting.
I recently took the boys for haircuts. It is so nice to have the hair salons and barbers open. No masks for their hair cuts.
There are people protesting about to wear a mask or not to wear a mask. I think people have too much time on their hands in this pandemic. This sign speaks to me and I agree!! I am not going to carry a sign or protest, but this pretty much sums up how I feel too.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
