Anniversary & College Rodeo

Jayden took Wes to compete in her first spring college rodeo. The plan was to take Wes to Fort Scott for the rodeo, then head home to Iowa for Spring Break. The rodeo would break up the long trip home. Overnight changes were made because of the Coronavirus. Jayden learned of the 3 week break, one week spring break, 2 weeks online classes. That changed her plan and after she competed, she drove back to Fort Scott all alone, driving late in the night, in the dark, and on county roads in the middle of nowhere. I hate when she does that and I spend most of the night praying and trying not to be a worrier. First she drove 5 hours with a giant truck and trailer and horse rolling in close to 11PM and sleeping in a cold trailer. She couldn't get the heat to work. Luke and I had were originally going to drive out to watch and stay with her in the trailer. We decided not to last minute.
Friday morning she was up in slack with Wes. She said the alley was dark going in and many horses had trouble. He handled himself great and ran a pretty pattern. He did really well for his first run and looked great. He ran a 13.7 with a 13 leading when she left. It was a gret confidence booster for Jayden. It had been awhile since she made a good run and it felt good to her.
Not long after, she loaded up and headed back to Alva to pack up and bring home the rest of her horses. She didnt have the fun college rodeo weekend she had longed for. She was excited to park near freinds and hang out the whole weekend watching and having fun. She made her run and packed up to head back to Alva.  She was sad driving back to Alva to pick up Queen and Joker and pack. We didnt know what was next and feared she could get stuck in Oklahoma in some kind of travel ban. She stayed one night in Alva, packed up enough to get by and headed for Iowa. The college rodeo carried on for Saturday, but cancelled the short go! All those kids spent the weekend together and the last final event, they cancelled. So bizarre.
So many unknowns. Will she return for classes, or will she return to pack up at the end of the semester? Would her college rodeo season be over? Will there be a travel ban and she cant get back for a long time? So many things to consider. The reality that it could be the end of the semester almost made Jayden cry. So many people and friends she may not see again, some maybe never. Jayden was the poster child for the rodeo photographer! Very cool.
While Jayden was traveling back from her rodeo, Mark and I celebrated our 21st anniversary. We went to Aunt Maude's in Ames for dinner. It has been our place of celebration for the past 3 years in a row. The restaurant felt quiet and empty with only a few tables occupied. I think people are already scared to be out and about. This is really going to hurt the restaurants.
This is a favorite photo taken in Florida before going out on a date. What an awesome trip and special time. Thankful for a great husband that take me on trips and enjoys being together! I am a lucky gal.

President Trump just held a press conference and has declared a National Emergency. This virus protection has gone to the extreme. There is no way to know how bad it will get here, if the plan will work, and what the future looks like. Jayden found out yesterday, her college has decided to take a 3 week Spring Break.I predict we will be right in the prime of this virus thing and nobody will return to class. I really hope that I am wrong. I pray that we will take all these crazy precautions and it will work. We will eliminate and control the spread and can go on living life as we should. All I know is right now, it is crazy and it has everyone panicking, and going to extremes. When I am out and about doing my shopping, running, errands, going to appointments, I observe people and overhear conversations. Most people laugh, joke, call this ridiculous. Many  carry on like normal, while others are fearful and becoming more germ-ophobic. I watch as people fill their shopping carts. You can tell who is on a normal shopping run and who is stocking up. The toilet paper isle and Clorox bleach wipes isles are bare, empty, completely out of stock. Come on people, toilet paper? It takes one news report that people have been stocking up on things like toilet paper and people  run to the store and buy it out. That is the influence of media. It is so sad for the person who actually ran out and really needs some. I bought a few items that I thought would be good to have, but nothing out of the ordinary. I didn't stock up any more than a typical grocery run. It doesn't seem necessary.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
