A week ago I had planned a girls outing with Jaydem, the Grandma's and myself. We would get hair done, nails done, lunch , and shop. With the virus, things are changing everyday. Jayden and I decided we would go and get our haircuts, lunch, groceries and head home. We arrived at the mall to find it was closed, they had moved to later and shorter hours. Some stores were closed indefinitely. Our hair salon was open, so we went and got a hair cuts... we were the only two clients. Next it was time for lunch, we made a couple phone calls because we heard rumors of restaurants not allowing dining. Sure enough, the restaurants have gone to all carry out or drive through only. We got carry out from El Azteca and had to sit in the car to eat it. We certainly were social distancing. Next we went to Fareway and bought some groceries. We didn't have too many troubles there, most things were available. The toilet paper isle was empty and rumor is as soon as it is stocked, it's wiped out. There are signs limiting people to one package per person. Many larger towns are finding shelves emptied of water, meat, bleach, milk, bread, hand sanitizer and of course toilet paper. People are hoarding for themselves, how very sad.
In 4 days, we went from large gathers limited to less than 1000, to less than 250, to less than 50, and now less than 10. We are to practice "Social distancing". I feel like the world has been social distancing ever since the iphones and social media came to be, now this is just going to another extreme.
I feel like I am in a movie on another planet. It is as if we woke up and are part of a science project to see what would happen if we put our people in a pandemic situation. How will they react, what will they do? And here we are living it. This virus doesn't seem like much in comparison to many of the viruses this world has seen over the past. We are going to the most extreme measure humanly possible to contain and prevent the spread. The prevention is all fine, it is the long term impact on people that worries me. People have lost their loving minds. It is hard for people to be kind and compassionate when they are so self consumed and worried about themselves, their health, their financial security and not the neighbors or others.
I am thankful for my friends Carolyn and Sue Ann. Ever since our trip to Cozumel, we have been video messaging back and forth on Marco Polo. We started out reminiscing all the fun we had on our trip. Lately our conversations have been on the changes from the virus known as COVID19. It is a great way to chat with a friend and talk about life together.
